I was laid off today from Dell and I was Remote

My team was told Dell would never force anyone to go back into the office when we all become remote during Covid. They said as long as we signed up for that then they couldn’t ever make us go back. I ended up moving to a different state during Covid since I assumed I would always be remote. I was then allowed to sign up for remote earlier this year when they forced everyone to do hybrid. I was approved. I also survived this round of layoffs. But it is only a matter of time now.
It's sad that Dell would ask an employee, who (I presume) was already working effectively in a remote position, to unnecessarily spend 39 days a quarter away from their family. Where does this colleague stay in RR, at a hotel? At their own expense?
So gone 156 days a year, forking out money for travel, to do the exact same job they were before?
Back in the day I worked in the field. I was gone 150+ nights a year to be at customer sites. I understand travel can be part of the job...but this seems pointless.
My teammate is living in Huston with family and chose "hybrid".
He stays 39 days in Rounbd Rock and stays the rest of days with family in Houston.
He is safe this time.
I agree "When you chose remote, you didn't care this job"
Wipe out remote, Its the right thing to do
had nothing to do with remote, plenty of people in all sectors both remote and office employees gone. this is only the tip of a much larger reduction. its going to continue to be brutal, I feel Dell is on its last legs.
Remote as well, hired as remote too with no available office nearby
Remote wasn't much of a choice for me (and many others). They closed my office during the pandemic, and never reopened it. If I wanted to move to one of the remaining offices (closest being over 10 hours away), they said I'd have to move at my own expense. Don't you dare say remote workers don't care about their job when they pulled the rug out from under most of us.
When you chose "remote", you didn't care this job.
You knew company would layoff you some day.
Me and many others that were remote also laid off - this is a story that needs to be reported on.
My team had 2 people laid off. One remote and one hybrid.
Same, temporarily remote to look after father in law with dimentia.
Me too. Remote
Also remote and laid off today.
