Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Tell me one thing -

Is it still true that after you become 50 years old Dell EMC want you to retire and every year will send you a retirement package which you either can accept or reject. Too many old-timers who are deemed undesirable?

" That’s because EMC was a great company not riddled by corporate greed. I remember when at one of the 2008 downturn the execs took a massive pay cut, we took 5% and nobody was let go. Today no exec would even think of that. They’re way too greed "

I remember that one. Once we recovered globally, we were compensated back. True loyalty and care for their employees.

We're not doing anything 'new' to keep up with....that's the problem.

Key word is who WANT to work. The small percentage of 50* who don’t care any longer to keep up, should find a new path.

That makes sense to me.

Regarding your remark, ‘ Too many old-timers who are deemed undesirable?’

You must be too young to tell ages. 50 isn’t old. Not in work, not in life.

Dell needs to keep experienced people who still WANT to work, else Dell risks losing partners and customers who lose faith in Dell and/or grow irritated by young inexperienced sales and support.

The is no formal VSP but informal arrangements are often made if you have let your management know ahead of time. Then things can be done if a WFR is in the works.

There is no Volunteer Separation Package. haven't seen one since before Dell acquired EMC. I think Dell would be surprised at how many would take it if offered

it's not just Dell, other companies nudge older workers with incentive package offers, but it's not okay for a manager to directly ask you when are you going to retire

almost 60 year old developer in ISG. No layoff emails today nor any retirement package email. It's business as usual.

Its rule of 70. Age and years of service equalling 70 is a big target

EMC offered earlier retirement option at 55. After Dell acquisition this program was discontinued.

I was hoping to get the VSP from the time I hit 55 yo. It took me 7 years of waiting around to get the VSP offer, which never came. Finally at 62 I pulled the eject handle myself.
