Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Will SURPLUS be deducted from severance pay?

I read that 401k contributions are not deducted from a severance lump sum payout. What about SURPLUS? Will they use my selected bonus % like they do for EB? Or normal %? Or nothing? Hoping to shield some of the lump sum from a big tax year.

@bhw get out and pray you get most of your money out. You are an unsecured creditor of Intel and in the case of bankruptcy your position is after all secured creditors.

I have ~250k in SERPlus which is a motivation to consider Enhanced VSP (which is VSP/CPM benefits + 8w pay +6 months more paid-COBRA + 20k medical bonus not taxed). This also includes the rule of 75 medical benefits (SERMA/IRMP) and accelerated vesting. It is a tough call?

Someone who’s actually getting the benefit would be able to correctly spell it. This is a troll post.

I left in 2022. Got my 1st surplus distribution in 2023. It was good I saved that money for rainy days. My colleagues were strongly against SERPlus because they were burned by Infineon and Broadcom. With the way intel’s financial situation going down, please take your VSP if you have large sum in SERPlus. Fidelity advisor told me SERPlus is low on the list when intel’s light is off.

If you have money in surplus right now I wish you luck getting whole!
