Should I be worried about coming layoffs or not yet?

This is just from my personal experience.
Every signing bonus that I have received stated that I had to pay back a prorated portion if I decided to leave the company before the one year mark. BUT, if the company released me prior to the one year mark. I didn't have to pay back any of it.
Sign on bonus typically requires the employee to stay on for a minimum period, but payback varies from partial to full amount - different legacy organizations have different contract terms (or so I’ve been told). Assume that if you are riffed before the required time period, you’ll have to pay back the full amount, and if otherwise, it’s a nice surprise. What amazes me is hearing that some people that were let go hadn’t taken their floating holiday. Take it folks - use it or lose it. Same applies to PTO in states where employer doesn’t have to pay full accrued vacation.
You must be brand new. No one is safe. I have witnessed them “firing” people after two months and even a week.
I am pretty sure a provider with landmark had to pay back some of their sign on bonus.
I would like to know what happens if you had a sign-on bonus.
