Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

You can no longer have two existing accounts

Please if this is happening to anyone that works for Macys can you please speak up !! It started about two weeks ago when I had customer after customer tell me Macys closed their regular macys but kept open the express. It is not up to to the customer to decide. My colleague also told me her macys card was abruptly closed and she was left with express that she has not used in 6 years!!

In an earlier post here (i'm a Macy's employee) I said I expected there would be a problem after receiving a letter informing me that my Macy's card (with the attached back-of-house discount) had been cancelled. Well, I made a purchase at Blue Mercury, and voila, just as expected, when I received my statement: NO BACK OF HOUSE DISCOUNT. I'm feigning shock here, but it isn't. I've tried calling the employee credit card number I was given between 9-6 EST as I was instructed by the supervisor that initially spoke with me and guess what? The recorded message is "Please call back during normal business hours." Normal for who? I've tried at various times of day and still get the same response. JEEZ, is anyone, ANYONE, available in this organization to help us employees? Anyone???!!!

@3bcy. You are correct. Sears received $16.12 for every Sears charge card opened through CITI. Believe me, it really added up. The incentive to the empolyees was decent too. We had one Cashier Lead at Sears who made so much each month in credit card incentive money that it paid for her Mercedes Benz.

You'll still get the Macy's employee discount with the Amex card. I'd cancel that one and keep the Macy's. Is there an annual fee for the Amex? Do you get any benefit other than points for Macy's? You'd be better off getting a no annual fee Amex with some knd of rewards and keeping the Macy's card

Citi gives Macys a lot of money for each account opened. Citi handled the Sears cards too & the profitability to Sears for pushing those cards was enormous. True revenue maker.
Macys must have the same deal. The interest accumulated goes to Citi so Macys benefits from the sales but Citi grows their revenue too.

The $10 Star Money keeps the shopper coming back. Like the Kohls cash. You just bought something, don't need anything but that $10 will get you back in the store or online.
These stores do it because it makes them money.

Unfortunately Macy’s had this mess dumped in their lap. This is on Citibank, they own the accounts. It is their ball and jacks. They will manipulate the game to best serve their interests.

As far as the interest rate, don’t carry a balance, and be what insiders call “our worst customer” Or to be what they consider the best customers, carry a balance every month.

Banks do not care and Macy’s is in a unique position handling credit accounts they do not own and have no control over. All they can do is offer rewards that at the end of the day only lower profits while Citi is unaffected.

I also had the AMEX with 2 lines of credit and received the letter stating my Macys house account would be cancelled and I would need to use the AMEX for all purchases. I believe I read on the portal that offering the 2 lines of credit was discontinued in 2016.

I use the AMEX labeled card in store but my online account defaults to the Macy employee card. I placed an online order and my card declined. I switched to the AMEX account number, the order was approved. My AMEX statement came with the Macys purchases listed first including the employee discount credit. My outside of Macys purchases were listed below the Macys total. I will now make 1 payment to AMEX. The star points from my purchases were credited to me.

I haven't tried it with a Bloomingdales purchase yet but the Macys purchase worked fine.

In furniture we never offer the Amex Macys because of the divided credit line. We had a customer that wanted to purchase $5K in furniture with her existing Macy's AMEX. She had $3K on the Macy's side and $7K on the AMEX side, as per CS. So she says to us "So I can use this to buy $5K in furniture at the store down the street, but not here unless I apply for a credit line increase on the Macy's side?" Yes, as per CS.... At least that's what we were told. Having said that, there used to be training alerts on all of this, we never get them anymore.

At my store, we were told not to open Macys Amex credit, but it still comes up as a choice for the customer.

Yes, this happened to me. I am a Macy's employee with a Macy's/Amex platinum card. I received a letter in the mail abruptly stating that my Macy's card has been cancelled. The letter went on to say that I would have to apply in store for the Bronze loyalty option to keep receiving star points. WTF??? I immediately called the phone number provided to enlighten them that I was not only a very long-time Macy's card holder, but also an EMPLOYEE. I asked exactly how I was supposed to get my back-of-house discount if I no longer had a Macy's card. I had to go through several attempts to get an answer before being switched to a supervisor (at my request) who informed me that i "didn't need to take any action, that I would still get my back-of-house discount through AMEX" Really? The supervisor I spoke with didn't even know what the current interest rate was for the Macy's card. I do because I deal with opening credits all the time in my store. And just under 35% is a pretty tough sell. He gave me an interest rate that was wrong- so am I to believe I will still earn star points and get my back-of-house discount with this new arrangement? You tell me.
