Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Will they announce layoffs at Town Hall?

I’m new to CVS, and I saw people here saying that that’s how it was done before. I barely started working and I’m already stressed about losing a job. Do they go for newbies when laying off people, or there’s no particular rule? I need the job badly. Was out of work for a year, and it’s no fun.

They never announce any bad news in the town halls. I worked for omnicare for many years and was laid off a few years ago. They first started closing our billing centers down in 2018 as they had started a shared service center in Arizona. But the pandemic put the kibosh on that. Since 2020 they were laying us off every 6 months. We didn't see online Town Halls until after the pandemic and by then they had already decided to sell Omnicare. We were never mentioned in Town Halls like the current companies that they've just purchased and try to get everybody all excited about. We were purchased, ruined, and like a unwanted stepchild never spoken about. There are few people working there- but they are sorely overworked due to CVS scrapping the workforce to the bare bones. If your company doesn't bring $, they will get rid of you. If they can outsource your work they will. But don't expect them to announce it at a town hall meeting. I'm not being salty, but you did ask, and if you want the truth - they are not going to say anything.

No they will not announce layoffs in Town Hall Meetings. They only talk about departmental successors and new leadership hires.

As long as you are no threat to your boss or the 2-3 bosses above that person you likely have no risk.
By threat I mean there are many don'ts at CVS: don't have individual thought, don't be innovative, don't speak up in meetings, work had but not too hard, don't forget to pray to the east (Hartford and Woonsocket), never ever don't follow the chain of command, don't try to tell anyone what's wrong with CVS or your department, don't be a person that is well respected, don't be a person that everyone wants to work with or for, don't forget to make sure you are a push-over, don't forget to give your boss full credit for all you do.... ok you get the point..

The worst part of last year is that is was more than alluded to and everyone was on pins and needles for 2 WEEKS until the actual layoff announcements were made. Also, like others said, there was no rhyme or reason to who was let go because the decision makers didn’t know what anyone did for work so a lot we’re back peddled or their job description up-skilled and people could reapply for their jobs if they wanted to try to stay.

Last year comments were made at the town hall that said without saying it. But based on what I saw last year, nobody should consider themselves safe. There was no rhyme or reason. It didn't seem to be more longer term employees or shorter term, performance was definitely not a factor...it was just a sh-t show.

So pay attention to the town hall and if something is eluded to then be scared and do not assume you are safe.

Agree with the first reply. You are Likely ok since you probably make 30-40% less than the long-term employees doing the same work that are about to be let go. Also less vacation, and probably less medical expense.

No they do not announce at Town Halls. Just eluded to it last year. If you’re new, probably safe. Get rid of those that are making more and been there awhile. BUT don’t get to cozy there, it’s not stable employment.
