The org was bloated all along, now Pat recognizes the inefficiency, bureaucracy this bloat has created. Why are so many complaining now when he is attempting to correct the bloat
Layoffs may not be happy news but is need for Intel to be competitive

They waited far too long to reduce the workforce. It resulted in billions lost over years of employing 50k to many people.
@SCO... spoiler, Pat re-joined in Feb 2021. All the hiring was done or committed to before he re-joined.
Agreed. I think Pat's first two years was tough... given he came in, saw the bloat and inefficiencies... but he couldn't cut right away. Why? Because the useless leadership in TMG, DEG, CCG, SMG, and DCAI all prob said... if you cut us, we'll miss the deadlines and sales targets we have already published. So what he could cut were operations roles in HR, IT, Finance, a bit of SMG, a little bit of non-engineering DCAI/CCG, etc... which didn't directly impact the product execution, or revenue. However, two years in, he was basically fooled... where guess what, products were still late, still underperformed, missed sales targets, and TMG is still grossly obese and inefficient. So hopefully, Pat will start from the top going on down to the bottom to hold all the liars accountable for missing their OKRs. Of which, that's prob why Stu, Lisa, and some other CVP/SVP/VPs are being invited to leave.
Because he created it in the first place. Who hired 40k people in 2020 and 2021?
