Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Gracenote is chilll but is it safe?

I have joined gracenote recently and I am surprised at the chill atmosphere despite layoffs and everything.

No one is able to explain me what the project is all about clearly and says you will learn on the go. The director thinks he has technical skills but tbh its all verbal vomit. Evryone seems to ignore him royally. No one comes to office and there seems to be no stress at all. I have noticed this stress free environment is more because of ignorance of leadership as they simply have no clue what is required. They just seem to just wait for direction from US and focused only on hiring.

I am worried how can such lethargic environment will be productive and profitable? Should i look for new job while on probation or business is solid and i do not have reason to worry?

More layoffs, entire engineering teams laid off in the name of expanding resources in India. Even the CTO replaced.

Nielsen's business is at risk. A major quality escape seems pretty likely in the current environment, causing a lack of confidence in Nielsen's numbers. If Nielsen loses a significant chunk of the core TV ratings business to the competition I don't see how it can survive. I think the lack of stress is because people either have their heads buried in the sand or are resigned to letting it happen. Only you can decide if you should leave, it could be worth riding it out. But it's not safe.

It's chill because everyone at Nielsen has checked out mentally. Everyone will be laid off eventually if they aren't located in India, Poland or Mexico. Nobody cares about doing a good job anymore...why would they?

Keep collecting deserved pay— they hired you— but keep up job search and run to next opportunity—just do your research in advance so you don’t wind up in another Nielsesque situation. Sounds as if going on interviews would be entirely doable in such a lax environment…

Don’t you think you’ve answered your own question with what you wrote

I mean, if you’re already seeing what a sh*t show the company is, why would you consider staying there? Just read the posts here and let them sink in.

Here’s what you’re dealing with across the company, Gracenote included:

A colleague on the training side said that the company has avoided including new hires with the viewing of town halls and such due to the ongoing toxic environment and ad nauseam discussions of constant layoffs and lack of promotions / pay raises.

In other words, the company you’re now working for is sketchy AF. Run now before it’s too late.
