Dell is my world because I live and breathe this company. I have no outside life because I live to work and I don't have any family or friends than Dell. Dell is my family as Dell has always said we're family. How can I avoid the WFR if I'm on the list next week? Can I take a week off for vacation or call in sick?

Ignore the inconsiderate comments. Fact is, there is no escaping the WFR if you, your role, or your entire BU is in the list.
I can’t tell if your post is sincere or not, but if it is - I understand. I too used to live and breathe my profession (at a previous Big Tech company). I let it become my ‘identity’. I lost perspective. I didn’t realize the risk in that. My job held way too much importance to me. It was ‘empty’, in retrospect.
Whatever happens to you in this wave of WFR or next, seek greater importance in your life. Love freely, give generously. Pick up some hobbies and develop other interests, invest in your health and fitness, practice your faith, and spend time with family and other loved ones.
THIS is just a job. That’s all. Show up, prove value to the company every day, and go home to greater importance.
Yes! If you call in sick the day of your 1x1/business update, your job will be saved!

Good god what a sad sad human being. At least you willingly admit you're a worthless loser.
You can't. You've been on a list for a long time already.
Real answer is that there are basically no reliable ways to dodge it.
My primary advice would be to let it happen. I was not too dissimilar to you. My social life was my coworkers, and I invested heavily in dells strategy to inform my education/training.
When I got laid off It felt like thr start of the end. But thanks to my network inside and outside of dell, I was able to find a job within 3-4 months of being laid off, and managed to pocket a good chunk of severance.
My secondary advice is what my manager told me in confidence and privacy. " if your in the hospital, on FMLA, or your wife is, I can convince then to target someone else".
Obviously, I opted not to do this, and outside of the ethical issues you need to understand you just sc--w over someone else.
Take the loss, build back up, and hit the ground running. You might be lucky, and find a far better employer.
choices were made weeks ago.. you just ride this out like if you caught the flu
How soon can you get pregnant and have a baby? Can you do both between now and Sunday evening?
I have a friend who was senior level, 20+ years strong at Dell. Super well respected, and just helped work on a deal that closed at just over 100 million. A week later they were handed walking papers. Not performance related, just a budget and contract thing.
We have a tendency to create our own families at companies. Sometimes even leadership says it. But, the reality is when your time is up, it's up.
Don't take it personally if it happens. If you have a great reputation, use your network and you'll land on your feet.
Good luck next week!
Remember, if you died today your job would be posted tomorrow and you’d be replaced within 48 hours. Jobs care nothing about us.

"I live to work and I don't have any family or friends than Dell" : then I believe it is time to see a doctor and go to rehab
If your number is up your number is up. You can't do anything to change this because who is getting cut was decided months ago. If you get cut, don't look at it as a statement about you. Many good people have been cut before you so take some solace in that.
Working in tech blows right now. Dell is no worse than other tech companies in the space. They are all afflicing the same angst upon their employees
Your family will never pay you to go away. Hopefully. Lol check in with your network at other jobs to see if you cab be referred to work somewhere else and get a real family!

use your short disability and turn it into long term disability.
There is nothing you can do. Whether you are impacted or not by this round of layoffs … Dell is not your family. Stop thinking of Dell as your family. I assure you, the company does not give a Fu%k about you.
