My friend was a contractor with Cisco. He and his whole team of 7 contactors just got laid off with immediate effect. Reason was given as budget cuts.

Anyone knows any news about Data Center group? Will there be any budget cuts or LR's?
Red badges in supply chain? I don’t think so. Only for system access.
Red badge will be off for couple weeks and back with full force.
Some of the BUs like supply chain, DnA and commerce runs only on red badges :)
Manager and Directors are useless in Cisco, exploiting Cisco's money by no work or deliverables. Some groups with Directors having couple individual Directors reporting. What kind of work or deliverables are they providing ?
There won’t be a volunteer layoff. Chuck said it will be very targeted in non-growth areas.
Anyone have any idea what orgs and positions from AppDynamics will be impacted? And what is likely more safe?
Be ready for a volunteer lay off after Q4 earnings. If enough people don't take the package, plan for a larger lay off in Jan 2025. Hoping the volunteer LR isn't based on age and years served like early retirement, just make it open to everyone with the basic 6 mos severance + PTO pay out + years served kicker.
For those who want to go...let them. Fran probably won't allow it because there would be a huge exodus.
You don’t have to report contractor reductions. The 4,000 LRs will make headlines this Summer.
As they say, contractors (red badges) are first to go in any trouble ahead. What we now know is just a tip of the iceberg - real panic and reality still ahead and unraveling slowly.
Hold on to your seat, and don’t jerk around. Make sure you don’t accept and join ANY 1:1 meetings with your manager or skip level next few weeks. Danger danger ‼️
That su-ks. I'm sorry they’re going through this. Contractors have zero safety net, so this will be devastating for some. Can you share which teams were cut? I hope they get something else quickly.
When your company has no growth and, in reality negative growth using real dollars, things tighten and the politics get intense. Cutting all the contractors is more of a panic move.
From where I am in the company we have little insight into the networking cash cow that pays for everything else (only the truly clueless think the other parts of the company make real revenue let alone margin), but other contacts are seeing signs of panic everywhere, like this contractor thing.
The official layoff will start from AppDynamics employees in about 2 weeks.
Contingent workers (red badges) don't count towards the official LR. Sorry to hear your friend was impacted, hope he can use this time to update his resume and find a better opportunity elsewhere.
Red Badge cuts are not considered layoffs since they are considered temp workers. Letting Red Badges go at the end of the quarter or fiscal year happens to multiple teams at Cisco all the time. Budget cuts were expected across the board, so naturally, that will impact the Red Badge population.
I'm still not so sure about a company-wide layoff at this point. I think there will be localized cuts, which is very normal. Invest in some areas and divest from others to help the business grow.
This is not technically an LR but instead ending a contract. Ending a contract 'effective immediately' happens quite often.
This has been a known thing for a few weeks for me. I lost 10 red badges in AppD, due to budget cuts. But I’ve known for 2+ months it was coming.
location and group please?
