more layoffs I believe are coming as well. just read the 2nd qtr report on canon investor page. For the print divison, Canon will manage profit inprovements by reducing expenses.
Watch for su----es then.
I suspect that a return to the office has always been part of the plan. It's ironic that just a few months ago, leadership threatened to go fully remote if they didn't receive an extension on tax breaks. A return to the office will surely lead to staff attrition (and an added bonus is not having to pay severance). The issue with this strategy, as opposed to layoffs, is that you lose control over who stays and who leaves. Those most likely to leave with a full return to the office will be the most skilled, confident, and hard-working employees that know they can do better elsewhere. This doesn't seem like a sound long-term strategy for the company, but it seems they may no longer be concerned with that. Buckle up!!
They've been "assuring" everyone that this is it, and no more lay offs are coming. Q4 year end layoffs will absolutely be coming. It's not over yet. When they likely announce full Return to Office for 2025 (or 2026 if they stretch it) at the 2nd Half Kickoff in August there will be an anticipated exodus of people who only want to work hybrid or remote. That will mitigate some of the inevitable Q4 layoff so the numbers will be less.
Most likely 1st week of October after the close of the 3rd quarter, otherwise it will be right before Thanksgiving because you know he don’t give a darn about the American holiday season.
