Thread regarding Optum layoffs

How are you faring with job search?

I just started, and I’m already terrified. I worked in insurance. I see some of you suggest widening the search beyond the health industry. Any suggestions? I’ve been in Optum for too long, got complacent, and haven’t been on the job market for a while. I know that now sounds silly. Any ideas or support will be welcomed.

Job market is absolutely brutal. Ask anyone and everyone looking for a job. It has never been this bad in my lifetime. Average time to find a on site clinical job is 6 months. Wfh jobs are 1 yr if that but most are ghost listings.

I have heard from people that are still in my dept that leadership is talking about hiring people since the dept is growing. Why did they do layoffs???????

Was "RIF'd" in May 2024. I have applied to at least 10 jobs a day during the weekdays with breaks on the weekend. I would suggest trying BCBS (had an interview there but no offer, you may have better luck). I did apply for a lower-paying position at Cigna and was offered a position so definitely try them also. And, I have another interview Monday with a newer company, Apixio. Definitely try them, they are a newer company and seem to have great reviews on Glassdoor for the most part. Don't get discouraged. Take breaks from looking for work when you need to. Try different industries and see what sticks. Good luck! You are not alone!
