Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Can you volunteer to get laid off?

I know the list would have been prepared long back. Can you request your manager to get laid off if your name is not on the list? I have a verbal acceptance of another job offer and waiting for official offer in a couple of weeks.

Our group was recently reorged and we have new management. I requested to laid off several weeks back. Was told Dell doesn't do that. I threw out 4 names of people who in the past across several years requested to be laid off and it was granted. Of course the new management was unaware of these people. Waiting to see. I'm in the US.

You can always ask your manager. I did and got my wish last September.

As to being able to get in on this round of layoffs I doubt you could get put on the list this late in the game.

Yes, you can raise your hand to go. Your leaders may not say yes, but you can ask.

There will be continued and are already layoffs happening in Europe. No geo or business area of the company will be off limits. Good luck to everyone impacted by this decision.

keep both jobs, start the new job, and slowly drift away from dell...

don't formally give your notice.

you will end up double dipping and be better off.

fu-k dell, they don't give a sh-t about you.

Many have done this and end up with 1-3 more months pay at the end.

Dell pays cr-ppy low salary and no promotions even after being a top performer. So yes - Free payday for quitting.

It depends on the relationship you have with your director. The lists for the August layoff have been reviewed and approved for several weeks now so you're too late for this round.
