Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Consultancies are just glorified parasites

I can’t help but wonder what’s the business justification for costs incurred by taking consultancies onboard. More often than not they do worse job and are far more costly than in-house people. They have no clue about businesses they invade, and then a lot of time and money is invested in clueless people who sometimes stay behind to replace the employees. I truly and honestly don’t understand the point of consultancies, let alone paying them for any services.

"That didn't exist in the past"?

Are you kidding me?

This complaint is as old as organized labour. I guarantee you that some of the hieroglyphics in Egypt translate into a complaint about how the Pharaoh doesn't know jack about cutting stone.

These days there is a massive disconnect between executive leaders and front line workers and supervisors and managers that didn't exist in the past. They don't share the same objectives and in may cases the top leaders know very little about the inner workers of their respective groups. When it comes time to find efficiencies ( the real and ongoing objective) they turn to consultants because they simply don't the business well enough themselves. The knowledge lies within their groups but because their objectives don't align and they lack the relationships within their groups it hard to extract. Years ago it would have been considered a sign of weakness to hire a consultant to tell you how to run your business, know they mask that by saying it good to get out side perspective.

It’s business strategy 101.

If we do the work we liable if it goes wrong. Hiring a consultancy - it’s now revenue / cost recovery as you can pass blame and sue to recover costs.

Executives aren’t stupid. Just a-holes … why take responsibilitiy when you can pass blame and profit on it.

Corporate America is now built on this principle.
