Plans for the future of Staples don’t involve most of us. Furthermore, I have no confidence in those plans. I don’t see anything that would make me risk and actually put an effort into staying here. But I can count many reasons for leaving as soon as possible. Being laid off with severance would be great. Finding a better job before being laid off and just leaving would also be great.

Most scientists define wetness as a liquid's ability to maintain contact with a solid surface, meaning that water itself is not wet, but can make other sensation. But if you define wet as 'made of liquid or moisture', as some do, then water and all other liquids can be considered wet."
LOL
The initial poster stated, "Plans for the future of Staples don’t involve most of us."
I stated a fact: in other news, water is wet. If you haven't figured out Staples is circling the drain, you must have your head up your behind.
Most, if not everyone, on this board, has been affected, or will be affected, by Staples's ineptitude. The original poster stated a fact that is and will still be relevant for as long as Staples is swirling the proverbial drain. It started over 10 years ago with deciding they could get cr-ppy 3rd party mom and pop couriers to deliver their freight cheaper than the dedicated employees.
It has morphed into outsourcing the furniture install teams and, last but not least, the ghost town of stores they have. Have you been inside a Staples store lately? They take freaking Amazon returns now?!? Amazon is their direct competitor, and the company Staples was striving to be. Staples now allows people to drop off returned items so their direct competitors can return them inside the Staples stores. WOW
To sum up my point: in other news, water is wet. I'm sorry you can't accept the realization that Staples is failing. I hope you get out before they lay you off without any warning or provide you with any severance.
It's sad to see the nature of some posts that see their threats to leave as something that would concern the company. Companies don't care about you, and yes, Staples is worse than many, but regardless, when times get tough you're always a number on a spreadsheet.
Diversify your skills, stay marketable in emerging technology and trends, and always keep your resume up to date. Don't put so much of yourself in your work, it's a small part of your life.
I would not count on some great severance package. Doesn't matter how long you have been there, there is a max of 20 weeks.
They let go of all the good leadership, there is simply nothing left. It’s all a cost cutting move and hiring newer people is cheaper.
Results are meaningless, just look at all the top performers who were laid off in November’s massacre, minus those frauds in the south stealing from the company.
That was the only smart move that was ever made at this company removing those folks….
Staples wouldn’t go bankrupt or close the doors. The cash flow is still good. Best option is being sold to new minds or going public.
Many people laid off recently are long term employees. Experience is not valued. Plan for your future now. Staples is not a future to depend upon
I suspect that I've been doing well enough at my job that getting rid of me would require them to pay out a chunk of severance. That said, if they run the company into the ground and end up going Chapter 7, I almost hope that it happens sooner rather than later. I don't want to have to try to find another job after being here for so long - not without the severance giving me the chance to go back to school and make something of myself.
