Thread regarding BNSF Railway layoffs

Incremental furloughs this quarter

More furloughs coming this quarter, with an extension of furloughs under 60 day warn rule. BNSF is utilizing the the loop hole of 1/3 of a worksite’s workforce, or a layoff effecting 50 or more employees as a way to circumvent the warn act. This means that as long as BNSF states “unforeseeable business circumstances” (despite it being a lie), and at the time of the next furlough, only lays off 1 employee less than 1/3 of the workforce at single worksite, they will continue to cut slowly until eventually, particular shops will only have a road truck crew operating to prevent paying retirements, prevent worker transfers to chase work, and cost companies who ship with BNSF millions due to company offices creatively and purposefully implementing a strategy that causes delays, while politically positioning the company to be sold to KCS CN Ferromex or NS before next year. Government won’t let UP buy BNSF, so be looking for the expansion of a foreign railroad to take over, my bet is Ferromex with the way BNSF is eliminating its positions in Texas and southern US.

They’ve had layoffs the last month of the 1st/2nd quarters, so I would expect the same the 3rd and 4th….

I was furloughed 6-28-24, I had two weeks of vacation coming for 2024, I requested after July 1 to be paid the remainder of my vacation, they posted my two weeks of vacation on 6-22-2024, so they wouldn’t have to pay me at the new wage increase that took affect July 1, is this not an evil company?

Do you think conductors are vulnerable or just mechanical?
