Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Is it safe to join PayPal now ? Please advice :)

I have completed an internship at PayPal San Jose and subsequently received a full-time offer for a Software Engineer 1 position with the standing team. In addition, I have an offer from Discover Financials. However, the joining date for PayPal is approaching.

Given the volatility of PayPal's stock market, I'm considering the safety of joining at this time. Are new graduates in the Software Engineer 1 role, or members of the stand in team in general, at a higher risk of being laid off in the next round? I would greatly value any insights on this matter.

Thank you in advance. Your advice could truly help me make a better decision.

The environment at PayPal has become more and more toxic over the past few years...

It seems like US and CA specifically is undesirable location for paypal due to compensation. More and more are being eliminated and replaced in India.

I believe stand-in teams are at a high risk of layoffs due to limited dependency. Others can confirm this.

As Software Engineer 1 role you should be pretty safe. Welcome to the "Family".

Congratulations on getting a return offer post-internship. The situation is indeed a bit tricky now, especially with uncertainties about the teams.

However, someone from San Jose might be in a better position to guide you.
