Thread regarding Waters Corp. layoffs

More summer layoffs in America?

Last year Udit sent out a surprise 3am email telling us that x amount of employees were laid off. I believe this happened in mid July. Being that it is now mid July, will Waters be doing more surprise layoffs? Is the reorg really going as bad as it feels? C Suite keeps telling us it's great and we are so lucky to have GCC but the work quality is definitely not even close to as good as it used to be with resolution times pushing 3 weeks to a month for very simple issues...

Do you suspect that this training is to eventually get them up to speed enough to replace the people doing the training? After last year's layoffs, I fully expect that the executive suite will be cutting costs by firing more American employees, until they can get the bare minimum done via GCC. As far as I am aware, almost every single department with a software team has GCC "assistance"

^at least that many. I have seen critical issues take up to three weeks to assess and determine which team will fix it, not even counting the additional two weeks that fix and testing will take.

^These were already delayed I believe, back in February. Will asking for a raise for next year get me laid off? The new bell curve rating system makes raises very difficult to get in my department unless you are actively taking on other people's work on a daily basis. I don't want much, just an inflation match or else I may have to start looking elsewhere...

A high skillset to manufacture cols etc is not really needed.the stategy is to be where the life science hubs are globally. Britain is a top 3 biotech player.india is becoming one of the biggest outside the US.S.America will be huge.so basically you have to be on your customers doorstep in todays world.one plant doesnt fit and that's wexford Ireland I'm afraid.

It takes 2-3 GCC FTE equivalents to replace a US FTE. This is no longer a low cost high value market as the big players consume the top talent. The cost is on par to what exists without the loyalty. Big investments in digitalization that aren't paying off and a $1.5B acquisition at 12-14 times forward earnings.....free crash flow at 50% what it was a couple of years ago. Perhaps rapid offshoring, closure of a site or two to save cash or replacement of current leadership team. The squeeze is on.

And you are right. I agree - GCC cost lots of $$$$$ - yah maybe the salaries are not as High as like the US, however I dont think these new hires are seasoned enough to really help like we would receive from other Waters EEs who have the background knowledge.

Its interesting because I hear nothing but great news and lots of kudos for GCC -
I think this is somewhat of a smoke screen and higher ups are not looking at the quality - just looking at the almighty dollar.
