Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Stressed about coming layoffs

I’ve developed an unhealthy level of anxiety for the past couple of years working here. Anticipation of the next round of layoffs is making me go nuts. At the same time, I stopped enjoying my work here a while ago. I don’t feel like I’m truly professionally challenged or that I grow or accomplish anything. I completely lost perspective as to why I’m still here. I got to the point that I’m hoping I’ll be let go this coming LR.

Its not just Dell. HPE is even worse.

The old guard is suffering - HPE, Dell, Intel.. The new kids on the block are getting filthy rich and Sam Altman is driving Koenigsegg Regera.. Life is an obscene tale..

Paranoia is healthy. But only if you act upon it.

If you don’t, then you deserve to be run over by what’s coming.

Darwinism.

Law of the jungle.

Get busy living. Or get busy dying.

Change the things you can change for peace and wellness in your life. Reach out and keep up with connections in and out of Dell. If you do get a job cut, having a referral will mean so much to your job search. I suggest start looking now and leave on your own terms because I seriously doubt this company will get better anytime soon. It will take a lot of healing before anyone trusts this company again with their job security again. It's best to move on and find another place to work imo. The market is bad but if you start looking before you are cut it would be better than doing a search unemployed. Most people I see are unemployed 6 months to a year before they rebound to a new tech sales job.

I'm sorry you are so anxious and stressed and I hope you feel better soon! You can get help with the benefits too. It may help you to talk it out with someone to give you places to focus on that you can control.

Its not just Dell. HPE is even worse. No leadership, constant layoffs, cut costs, no travel, etc. Save money for Juniper purchase (that will just lead to more layoffs). Management is just yes men all the way up the chain. People do as little as possible. Anxiety is through the roof, for everyone. You are not alone.

Constant layoffs over the last 18+ months, combined with the ever increasing workload being placed on my shoulders due to so many people I work with being let go in that timeframe...it's a horrible combo. The anxiety of wondering if my number is getting called next. The stress from being spread so thin. I feel like I'm trying to kick 30 cans down the sidewalk every day. I know I'm not alone on this...everyone I work with across orgs feels the same way.

And then you have tone def senior leadership who won't even acknowledge it. Pre-scripted quarterlies. Tell Dell shows "uncertainty" but it's apparently due to direct managers not communicating Dell's vision well enough, not because of the elephants in the room (workload, layoffs, RTO policy).

I get reductions are sometimes necessary for any company, but at least own up to them. Show your face instead of hiding. Acknowledge the concerns of your employees. Whatever respect I once had for our senior leadership has been destroyed the last two years. F' em all.

Don’t worry, it’s not just you. Upper management really can’t seem to conceptualize what doing this every 6 months does to the mental health of their staff.

Putting that aside though, I’m feeling the exact same way. I have anxiety issues and this cycle does nothing but drive me crazy the last couple years without fail. Though this round, I’m trying to think of it as a win-win either way. Either we keep our jobs and get to keep pulling in a paycheck, or we get laid off, bank some severance and get out of what is clearly a toxic cycle, avoiding the anxiety it brings, and also avoiding taking on the inevitable landslide of work from all the people getting the ax, because you KNOW they won’t hire more people to help with the workload, as they have shown in the past. So take a deep breathe and just realize either way we are gonna be okay.
