Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Unbelievable Psychological Games/Warfare at this Acquisition Company Disguised as a Healthcare company - Such a deceptive/unethical mess

This public company in business for profit and not healthcare is just a public acquisition company in business to make money not heal sick people or add value.

It acquires businesses for 1 of 2 reasons they either want data that helps them to determine what their competition charges or does OR they buy the other companies, then dissolve them to reduce competition in hopes of keeping their customers.

UHG, leading the way to stamp out competition by acquisition NOT building a better health care system. They don't give 2 hoots about members, patients, physicians, or any other healthcare workers or employees. ONLY about the bottom line and how they can earn more and line shareholders and C-suite pockets. That's all folks...

So disgusting...unethical, immoral, and pathetic. Oversight agencies, if they did their jobs correctly could have a field day. There should be whistleblowers everywhere.

For those still there... Run as soon as you can. Get out and don't look back. You will be very glad you did.

After being RIFed after a nearly 20 year career with an acquired company, I was initially blown away emotionally.
However, leaving (being forced out - gl31 in my early 60s) has been terrific. Yes, not having a paycheck is stressful but since leaving I’ve lost 20 pounds, sleep at night, spend time with my children and grandchildren, and finally got a job with a smaller company that cares about their employees. Bottom line is that Optum is bad for some people’s mental health and getting out has been a salvation for me.

The OP’s post is so accurate in describing the core mission of this corporation that it is sad and sobering! They don’t do the best job at providing healthcare insurance, not even a great job, but they are experts in profiting from a closed market business. Now that I’m unemployed I see United commercials all day long on multiple channels! It’s actually overwhelming and nonstop, very hard to tell if Toyota or UHG have more commercial air time on a daily basis. If people actually thought they were getting the best healthcare with Optum then I would say profits are good, but surveys don’t reflect this company is any better than Kaiser, we have many dissatisfied members. The push for profit is why we are all here, but what’s despicable about Optum is they ALWAYS make huge profits because they control the healthcare market. Instead of unionizing, let’s get some people/whistleblowers speaking up about HIPA violations they see, maybe contact the press to alert the DOJ and SEC to review any antitrust violations amid all the market dominance due to sheer size! Breaking this company up much like ATT was back in the eighties would probably be good for everyone! So, next time you’re in a meeting and some HR or diversity team mouthpiece talks about how the company is improving people’s lives through better healthcare delivery, callout the BS and say Optum is in it for the money!😂

I am not sure why the employees are not unionized. Unions negotiate better exit packages

Yes it’s a mob front - paying off Supreme Court justices to get decisions written that help you avoid liability for refusal to pay for treatment - seems vaguely criminal to me (alllegedly, lol - not a lawyer but read the article) https://autos.yahoo.com/clarence-thomas-couldn-t-cover-174000048.html

Moving work overseas makes it harder and harder to pin things on the company. The company has more control over resources, etc than in US. If shady is your game then global is the board to play on.

Completely agree, trying really hard to get out right now. Tired of waiting for a severance, it's not worth it.
