Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Possibility of getting fired during 60 days?

Is there a possibility we can get fired during this 60-day waiting period? I know they can release us at a sooner date and still have to pay us our base salary, but would/could they go out of their way to say we’re fired, effective immediately? My manager made it very clear that we don’t have any actual work to do now & during a meeting when she was asked what was expected from us now, there was no clear answer, other than “use this time to apply for jobs internally or externally”. This has me feeling uneasy because their words don’t mean anything anymore and I’m wondering if doing “no work” could be used as an excuse to say “you aren’t doing anything so we have to give you an early termination” … None of us even got an answer regarding whether we should check in at the beginning of the work day or how severance will be impacted ;since the letters clearly state that severance will be reduced if you aren’t “working”). I have never been laid off so this just has my head spinning.

Don't worry. Optum just really wants you to go away and not spend any management time on you. I was told in my RIF phone call with TM and HR to take time to take care of myself. Within 1 day I was getting emails and texts regarding assignments from her i needed to complete. I reported her to HR for harassment (big buzz word) and all communication stopped. That was taking care of myself. There is so much more to life professionally and personally than Optum. It will work out, you will be okay.

Use that generous amount of time wisely to look for a job. I only got two weeks and no, they don’t expect anything from you. They just want you to quietly disappear

Be glad you got 60 days, usually it’s 2 weeks.

The 1st layoff I witnessed was in 2020 (and they've been non-stop since - great way to live eh?). My beloved colleagues who were RIF'd got quite a lot of notice and we're eventually told they didn't even have to log in, as we all worked from home. Please use your energy wisely and try not to concern yourself with uhg and their shenanigans. Wishing all of you all the best!

I’m in the same situation. I don’t have patients, reports, meetings, or anything though.

Just do your ethical obligation and take care of your patients

You already been canned they cant terminate you double. Usual layoff you get notified and marched out the door here is your 60 day notice and send you on your way. Still getting paid but dont have to show up. Insane to let you have access to anything since you could mess things up royal as disgruntled employee. Just show up use the internet to look for another job you owe them absolutely nothing now. Dont bother looking internally odds near zero that will work out

Just show up daily do your job or lack of job and wait. They have soooo many investigations going on into their lack of regulatory compliance, fraud etc that canning people early, well you will still get paid.
