It's ironic that I've been hoping to be laid off for a year and I'm still here, layoff after layoff. I'd tell my manager but that would alert him to me wanting to leave and I'm sure they'd just wait me out. The only reason why I'm staying is because I don't want to give up on severance. After 17 years here, I deserve it.

I heard from a friend who is a director that those who are interested in retiring are putting their name on a list - so when a layoff comes they get laid off rather than retire. Tell your boss that if she’s asked to lay off again on her team you volunteer for the severance.
Yeeeaaaaah.... you definitely should have thought that comment through before saying it in a forum where people are now wondering wth they're going to do. It takes 4 weeks after last day to receive the payment. Whe. You do, half is gone to taxes and your health insurance whether through cobra or on a spouses plan goes through the roof! Which severance can't support. And if optum truly has laid off the amount of people I heard it has in 2024, all these "lucky" people have one he-l of a fight in front of them. I
This is why I went and used up all of my PTO hours and then maxed out my FSA % for the year, and the cherry on top was using my 6 month disability leave benefit which paid out at 80% regular pay. I sat and chilled for 6 months getting paid, I will say after all the BS I went through here……..I took that as my severance when the benefit timeframe was up and I dipped out. I hope more people play the game of chess with Optum instead of checkers like the managers do.
A lot of people got laid off and have no idea how they will make a living and you’re whining and crying about having a job. You chose to stay there. Sound like an annoying narcissist
