Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

“Incredibly Poor Management “

I am a current Crown Castle employee. That was something that I use to be proud of. Now I am embarrassed to say that I work there.

I saw a bunch of amazing people who were loyal employees walked out of the door last week and other incredible people given a few months notice.

The week before the layoffs there was a VP promoted to SVP, talk about a slap in the face.

Crown was incredibly sneaky and promoted some people to Sr. PM and whoever was not secretly provided with that title is on the chopping block.

If Crown wants to change things then they need to continue from the top down. A certain C+ level executive spent a fortune on a method to install fiber and is now cutting that program back. Great waste of money. Your a$$ should have been cut for that failure.

Crown seems to spend money building out their network but they have built it in a way that they will never make any money from these builds. Again, these are decisions made by senior management yet they laid none of those people off.

They will not announce the exact number of people they laid off but I can assure you that it was way more than the 10% they claim.

They continue to play games with their books counting one node as multiple nodes and giving inaccurate numbers to the investment bankers. I would be embarrassed as well if I were in upper management but I would not lie about that. Crown has become an expert at manipulating the books. If they only put that much time and effort into running the business properly Crown would be a very successful company.

They seem to promote their friends into high level positions yet these people have no experience in the areas of the business that they are managing.

They made a brilliant decision to sue one of their biggest customers over a door at a compound opening 3’ and asked for more money. They succeeded in loosing their frivolous lawsuit and they lost the customer as well. Once again, great decision by upper management.

They built out offices that were never more than half full. Great way to blow even more money. They are now closing these offices after only occupying them for a few years. Another example of brilliant management wasting money. The only thing they did right was to close most of these offices.

Our new CEO was on a call with the employees and he said that he is already seeing ways that Crown can save money by lowering the AC and turning the lights off when nobody is in the office. Do you really need a CEO to tell you that? You can’t even make this up.

It seems that Crown has no clear path forward and due to incompetent management they are now grasping at straws. They finally figured out that spending 100k for 10k in revenue is not the way to run a business. Only took them about 7 years to figure that out.

I was watching CNBC and while this is only one man’s opinion when asked about Crown he said to stay away from Crown due to the fact that they are “incredibly poorly managed “ Mr. Cramer is 100% correct and I only wish he knew the whole truth about how poorly management managed the company.

Even though I was not impacted by the layoffs I have every intention to leave there ASAP as do many of my co-workers. We have no faith in the C level management who got us into this mess. The same C level management is still there drawing their high salaries, bonuses, and options.

Aside from closing the offices they never should have opened in the first place I have not seen one positive change since Elliott Management came in to stir things up. I have a feeling that they are probably sorry that they put their 2 billion into Crown. It is just incredible how C level management can destroy a company. They have managers who report to other managers and have no direct reports. VP’s who report to other VP’s and have no direct reports. I do believe that is why someone was promoted to SVP.

I could go on but it is just more of the stupidity that our leadership demonstrates.

Management has ALWAYS been bad. The nepotism has ALWAYS been an issue. It just was evident to anyone but ICs.

Fiber was never effectively and efficiently integrated for that very reason. The nepos in shared services were used to working the cash machine towers, that a child could make money on, and wanted nothing to do with the the actual work and low returns on fiber. Not only did they not want fiber they had no skills to make it work.

Fought tooth and nail to do the bare minimum and let it fail. Only to blame the fiber folks. Those same people are still there with bigger titles and higher pay. It's gross.

This post is SPOT ON. And 100% accurate. I resigned a handful of months ago (after quite few years) because I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity anymore. I worked at one of the big companies many years ago and NEVER thought there could be a more toxic environment than that place. Let me tell you…CC proved me wrong. The most horrendously led place I’ve witnessed after 3 decades in telecom. At least when you’re at one the giant companies, you don’t have a CEO who sits on stage with a production crew talking about purple glitter, we care so much about you, we rule, etc. All smiles and nothing but a crock of cr-p while the whole place was actually heading rapidly down the drain.

I doubt the next company gives a rat's tail about the employees. Especially if it's a "financial" company as alluded by the new CEO. Look up the asset management company Digital Bridge. They have offices where CC closed theirs. Coincidence...

Excellent points: "Crown has become an expert at manipulating the books. If they only put that much time and effort into running the business properly Crown would be a very successful company."

So they let DS go (someone who would know that our strategy was NOT working after years of financial data)....then they bring him back ..... with a $2M stock option benefit of course as enticement.

Just beautiful....you can't make this stuff up. Truth is stranger than fiction as the saying goes...

That lawsuit had TF written all over it, and he has skated out with an exit package.

So glad to not be a part of this company anymore. It’s going to become increasingly unhappy and uncomfortable.

Cramer says to avoid? I guess that means our stock is about to finally recover

Guarantee the Dish lawsuit came from one of the incompetents in sales. Saw dollar signs and everyone jumped onboard. KP, SP, MH, ML? One of them or their cohorts. 100%. Just absolutely mo--nic. Nickel and dime ing customers to death to generate extra revenue in order to justify an insanely expensive, fat department.

The door swinging into a common area when being serviced? Priceless. All tenants use the common areas for service. What you want to charge them to walk to their sheds? Or should they levitate? Just priceless.

well said...CC is laughable outside these purple walls. everyone sees the buddy promotions within the company even from the outside looking in. Promoting friends with zero experience at whatever cost, even walking out great experienced managers to do so. The industry is small and people don't forget names.

The latest cost savings tactic: get rid of all the plants and make this place look like a morgue.

Now, this is a well thought out and honest post on how exactly things has been mismanaged ever since small cells and fiber merged into Network. Lot of folks here tend to blame JB for this mess (and rightfully so to some extent) however at least he managed to restrict salary increase for higher wage employees (Directors and above) one of years in past. Ever since his exit, CL has been just promoting VP to SVP, Managers to Sr Managers etc. Honestly, if I was in that SVP's position, I would decline that promotion and vouch to save some jobs of people that helped her get that promotion.

The management has been really bad for quite some time. When Jay took over all he had to do was nothing. The business was great, all he had to do was smile and shake some hands and he found a way to mess that up. He should have been out in 2020 the first time Elliot called him out. Of course he was not alone, the board and EMT are just as responsible. The mistakes are never ending from leadership at Crown.

You realize that just a couple of months ago, Jim Cramer said Crown was a good buy right? He’s just now realizing that Crown is poorly managed? After we’ve been screaming that on this site for years?

That guy is a tool.
