Remote Exception Rejection

My colleague was recently informed that her Remote work exception is rejected. She was hired an year ago as fully remote employee. She has to be in office for 2 connect weeks/month starting Sept. If not, she can take severance package and leave Fidelity by the end of year!! She can continue to work remotely till her last day if she decides to go for severance.

If you're 30+ miles from a site, you get some kind of package. If you're within 30 miles, you get nothing.

Same here. Have worked for Fido for over 20 years, got approval to work remote at the end of 2022. Moved my family to another part of the country. Was just informed my exception has been denied/revoked. Told I can accept the terms and begin FLYING to work twice a month, or decline, and I will be jobless after 12/31/24. The culture in this company has declined dramatically over this past past 12-18 months. It is no longer a company who appreciates their associates, and their performance, but rather a firm who has lost all sense of "Work/Life Balance".

I have worked remotely for the last 6 of my 8 years. Received approval to move fully remote down south to be with aging in-laws. I was shocked that my exception wasn’t approved. I’m a top performer and well liked. My manager weren’t even able to make a case to keep me. I can’t move back so as of the end of the year I’m unemployed. Haven’t seen the paperwork yet but I’m pretty sure no severance.

~3500 remote workers today...

To the person who asked how many, I have no idea, guessing between 10% to 20% based on teams I have knowledge of, though maybe the area I work in has a higher concentration of remote roles.

And only a handful of remote workers will be granted the exception. The criteria are very strict as far as the role having to be something so specialized and unique that you can argue it has to be remote.

If this were even 10%, that’s 8,400 workers. If it’s 5%, it’s 4,200… way way more than the 700 or 800 officially laid off in March.

I will be glad to strike. We can do it on a weekend and call the news companies. We can do it right in front of the campus. Fidelity hates negative press!

Hello,
I'm a reporter at Ignites (part of the Financial Times). I'm trying to better understand what's happening at Fidelity with respect to remote workers and the requirement to spend increased time in the office as of September. If you can discuss, please contact me: 212 542 1252 or bwilcox@ft.com

Does anybody have an idea how many associates are in this remote offer letter category?

This is how you do it, if we all refuse to return to work they can't fire us all! We need to standup and strike! https://slashdot.org/story/24/06/20/2017257/nearly-50-of-dells-us-staff-defy-office-return-report-says
