Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Yeah, Your Store Is EXTREMELY Understaffed. No, It’s Not A Mistake…

I’m posting this because I’m getting tired of the a$$ clowns at the top of my store telling me that we don’t have less staff than last year or that they’re having more trouble finding people.

No, they’re NOT. It’s a deliberate choice that’s being made by corporate and I’m tired of being lied to like I’m a mo--n.

Yeah, I know that sales are down. Having worked for Lowe’s for nearly 15 years, I didn’t notice that.

What I object to is the constant need by the “leaders” in the store/district/region to tell me something that’s comically and obviously not true. Why do they feel the need to lie? They’ve chosen to not staff the stores because they want to make more money. That’s what it means when Ellison says that they want to focus on “increased productivity.”

“Increased productivity” are their corporate buzzwords that means “we’re going to make fewer associates do more work”. But since corporate is under the impression that we’ve all got an IQ under 75, they choose to lie to us.

Well, I’m not doing more work because they choose to hire less people. I’m doing the same work I did last year when I had over a dozen customer service stars. I’m going at the same pace, taking the same breaks and covering the same departments. I’m NOT going to race around the store, desperately trying to answer every customer service bell going off. I’m not driving myself nuts to increase their productivity.

And you shouldn’t either! This place considers each and every one of us to be throw away. Remember that. And every time they ask you to cover multiple departments because there’s no associates that day, politely lie to them, like they do to us, and go right back to what you were doing. And if there are five customer request bells going off in the store, well that’s just life isn’t it.

Marvin must have a bracelet with the letters WWHDD(What Would Home Depot Do). Very unoriginal to run a skeleton crew to try to be profitable. Customers can't get help, they just walk out.

Our store loses so many cashiers because of our front end manager. We just lost three more and they said they're not going to replace them so we are so far under staff on the floor in the front end. All our store is hiring for the MST Green team.

Stores, for the most part are management heavy. Time to trim at the store level and bring on more CSA’s.

Melvin is still on the hook for all those ASM'S and Store Managers bonuses he gave out earlier in the year. He can't afford to hire more people.

I am a part time employee and at my location they have cut all part time employees to 1 maybe 2 days a week. That is from 4-10 hours a week. We can not stop doing this. And to top it off, my store is one of the highest grossing stores in the district.

Want to fix it, form a union. We have no leverage as individual workers, as a union we could starve the company until they agreed to our terms.

More and more glad I retired at the beginning of the year.
I saw a former co-worker the other day. He told me they did not fill my slot.

Yep, OP nicely sums it up. We went from 2 specialists, a full time csa and a part timer to just 2 specialists. Am I going the extra mile, "hungry to win"? Nope. As the now-late Donand Sutherland said in the movie Backdraft "burn it all".

Also no cost of living adjustments for us but they raise all of the prices far above any additional cost increases. They are paying you less by not giving us COLA increases, so do less work.
