I’m not sure why car dealerships seem to be targets for cyber criminals. It’s like we’re the low-hanging fruit or something. 🧐 with all the personal and financial information we handle, it makes sense in a way, but it’s still frustrating. we need better security measures in place to protect our data. it’s not just about preventing hacks, but also about having a plan to respond quickly and effectively when they do happen. has anyone had any success with specific security protocols or software? we need to share best practices to help each other out.

Any dealership that still has an old 9200 onsite is laughing all the way to the bank. It is no surprise that all the garbage duct taped together to form a DMS got hacked. Old MacDonald was never interested in "fueling for growth" and many of the suggestions in the employee survey from 2017 included fixes that would have prevented the breach. But the mo--ns at Elliott Investment Management blocked most of these suggestions and just did a bunch of layoffs. (some of which had 30 years with the company and knew 30 different ways to perform a breach, so it was just a matter of time till one of these guys passed on this info to a offshore hacker.)

CDK now says it will be June 30 before they come back:

Some companies use ELeads to monitor employee production. Someone should have been monitoring ELeads mobile app for easy backdoor authentication applications because they just got sc--wed.

CDK has been breached in a cyber security attack and has shut down its SaaS. Did you know that CDK uses VMware SD-WAN and SASE security? It didn't work so well this time, https://sase.vmware.com/resources/cdk-global

After the amazing success of “Fueling for Growth” and “Fit and Focused”, Brian McDonald now presents “Hacked and Helpess”.

A few more rounds of layoffs and offshoring should do the trick! This was the inevitable outcome of trading competence for cheap labor and cost cutting.

As if CDK didn't completely su-k before it was hacked.... Hopefully this is a wakeup call for CDK to get with the times... Using CDK when it was working is still like playing an arcade machine from 1987...

I’m sorry for all the dealerships and their employees, but as a former long time employee of CDK I can tell you that really good knowledgeable employees were treated so badly they left in droves or were unkindly dumped like garbage in favor of cost cutting and outsourcing. Something like this was bound to happen.

Wow hacked again?! This is gonna take them weeks to sort out. I heard some dealerships couldn't adapt and just shut down yesterday. Wonder what they are gonna do for the rest of the week. My dealership is writhing everything by hand. We can still look up parts, ordering and pay for. We just can't invoice or know the shops price. Boss bought us invoice books and have been selling everything at suggested retail. It's a pain but what's gonna be a bigger pain is when cdk comes back online weeks later and trying to get everything invoiced and closed. Guarantee QOH is going to get way more messed up than it already is. What a nightmare!

This is interesting. I think that the auto industry is learning a very hard lesson.

  1. Too much dependencies on ONE system. It's too centralized.
  2. How on earth are all of the systems tied to ONE area where it brings it ALL down?

If your dealership did something like give all service technicians the login and password combo tech/tech and uses the green desktop icon, that's probably a way into your system.

Also if you use something like that as your password you should know better.
