Ugh, just exit Canada already. The country is failing and is already on its way to becoming a Third World Country.

Canadians love to strike. The rail strike threats are ridiculous. They also now have more bureaucracy and anti business government requirements than California. Already a small market that’s difficult to serve due to its vast geography. There’s a reason Canada isn’t strategic. I’m convinced they’re so obsessed on differentiating themselves from the US so not to be viewed as the 51st state that they are ruining their country.

You mean when oil prices are up chemical margins are down. Crude drives it.

True everything has a price, but no one business is going to buy the whole site. With a union covering 2/3's of the site. A buyer would have to take on both Chemicals and Refinery. They couldn't find a buyer for the Upgrader section only a JV deal.

Ya, well - 20 + other plants in North America were "crown jewels." Everything is always for sale in business.

There's been talk of selling the chemicals side for decades. It's unlikely as Scotford is a crown jewel for Shell. When chemical prices are down, Oil prices are up. When Oil price is down Chemicals price is up. Each side of the business props the other when rough times happen. That site literally props up most of the Shell portfolio.

Or, Shell sells the plant?

it's either a strike or a lockout, either way, come end of June there will no Chemical or Refinery operators on that site. Management put a hold on their re-org. so congrats i guess, layoffs are delayed until a CBA is signed.
