Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Schwab test and development going down

Surprised no one has said anything about this but why has the schwab test and development regions been down for like weeks now. Our technology leads need to get their heads out of the sand and realize the p-o is fitting the fan yall messed up royally.. does anyone in the company care anymore? I know I few who do but its not a lot compared to the many who could care less. Hopefully things will be resolved in a week or so but not feeling confident about it. We need to get this course corrected asap.

Some one is Benefiting from No-Test and Low-Test Stuff.
Question is WHO, HOW and WHY?

Where?

Fidelity is a ca ca show with layoffs, constructive discharge and broad incompetence. Vanguard is limited. Wells is criminal. And on and on.

This is an absolute sh-tshow. How can any functioning organization operate effectively without test environments? Who is owns critical batch and how could they allow this to happen?

@lwa+1t1guhQ5

This guy KNOWS. Did we just become friends? Nothing like running everything in the year 2001 while professing to be functional in 2024. Gotta love it.

Silver lining? PLENTY of work to be done to address technical debt (too bad no one is empowered to challenge the “old guard” or make a clear decision)

Welp, they had to re-provision the test mainframe regions to re-run critical batch. The main reason why so many Schwab customers were showing incorrect day change values for 24 hours. The CICS manager crashed, they had to reboot z/OS and bring the hypervisor back up, batmobile broke down and the joker got away. But not to worry. They will containerize everthing and run it on a 80286 multiprocessing system. Soon we will be submitting programs with punch cards flowing through the CI/CD pipeline.

Maybe they can find a contractor to fix it.

Very well said. No one cares anymore. You can only be lied to so much until you just start completely shutting out what management says.
I do still believe that these issues can be fixed but it takes management really caring and they don’t.
Some fixes for the leadership who read these posts:

  1. Stop lying. Admit you lied about return to office and take ownership. This was the plan all along. The next phase will be to bring people in five days a week. Be transparent about it.
  2. Allow for anonymous feedback that employees can vote on. Let us get the answers to the questions we really have and not the watered down cr-p you are being fed today. If you want honest questions you will bring this back. No one and I repeat no one is stupid enough to ask a tough question with their name attached to it. People know the backlash will be harsh and fast.
  3. Be transparent. Stop telling people that layoffs are not being discussed only for me to hear from my senior vp they are. Someone is obviously either lying or not properly informed. If another layoff may happen just tell us. If RTO may go back to 5 days just tell us. You see the theme here? Transparent communication.

That is all

What are ESM folks doing. Should have fired Supper, Reneer, Pama, Zollet, Tiny and Menace. I am sure I am missing some names.

Pervasive toxicity = “quiet quitting”
No one cares anymore. These environments are leaking into Prod… we’ve all seen this recently. Again, no one cares.
Sure management is alarmed, but they’re powerless to fix anything. Only the real workers are able to take corrective action, but these are the people who’ve been strngled to deth from the toxicity and tone deaf leadership. The WB and the EC have officially “k1lled their golden goose” and it’s only going to continue; the Rubicon has been crossed.
So, hang on and have a front row seat to watch the demise of a once great firm, or work hard at finding a new employer. Blue pill / red pill
