Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Comical

Staples Executive Chairman and CEO John Lederer noted, “Staples has long been the leader in workspace products and solutions, delivering relentless innovation to our customers through our human touch and expert know-how, differentiated digital solutions, and a highly efficient supply chain. This commitment to serving our customers has generated industry-leading revenue and EBITDA growth over the last several years.”

Reality- EBITDA growth is a result of mass layoffs and targeting tenured experienced older associates and cutting expenses. Morale at an all time low and company is not growing. Look at sales in 2011 for the company compared to 2024. Business has been stripped by PE it’s what they do. Those at the top and the owners get richer and everyone else is used and tossed when deemed no longer worthy. Looks like the rich bankers threw a lifeline for the massacre of the business to continue so very sad. There is nothing human or humane about JL. His quote means nothing. Greedy and corrupt and inappropriate communications every time he opens his mouth.

Whoever wrote collectively culled is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Look up what that means.

I agree but that requires dropping JL and his minion JH. Innovators believe in people at all levels, not just those they can leverage to enrich themselves.

“Staples is still very heavy in the long term, stagnant employee pool.” And more “culling” to come. Older and tenured not valued and will continue to be targeted translation.

Shows that SLT loves to post here and anyone liking this post is definitely SLT or strategy team which I question the term strategy for anyone in that group. Nothing strategic about that group. Look up definition of culling if you don’t believe. JD is that you posting, if not guarantee you liked the post. HR leaders should be protecting associates not doing the dirty work of the JL the Inhumane.

Wow, “collectively culled” how disgusting to use that term, but so enlightening as to how the tenured team members are thought of and abused, Very descriptive of what you have been doing for years. “Selectively Sla-ghtering” the careers of those that were dedicated, driven, and drove the success of the business. It is not their fault that the strategy and investment in the business failed to innovate or evolve.

Pivoting and innovating is what many of your tenured and experienced folks have been doing for their entire careers and the companies inability to actually execute successfully due to their leadership and operational ineptness. What a ridiculous rebuttal. Your poor hiring and promotion decisions since company went public and dollars invested in the same gtm strategies that are just recycled speak volumes. Your loyal tenured experienced leaders want to look forward but learning from the past is something that should be valued not dismissed. That’s ok, continue to position the same strategies to the new team members they won’t know it’s the same plan in a different deck. Buy you some more time to continue to collect your double digit growth EBITDA and pay the owners and those at the top the big bucks while everyone else gets bled dry or fired after being dedicated and driven to build the company and drive the success.

Staples is still very heavy in the long term, stagnant employee pool. Part of the challenge is the large portion of tenured employees that want the company to return to the 'good days' when it had just started out.

Those days are long gone, and the company needs to continue to pivot and innovate, and those that want to revert backwards need to continue to be culled.
