Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

What do you think ?

I just joined the company (IGU) less than 6 months ago. Do u think with this info, will increase/decrease the possibility of me to be redundant.

A lot will depend on your attitude, and each situation is unique. No need to jump to conclusions. Stay positive, think of the reasons why they should keep you - fresh perspective, better understanding of new technology, your lower cost, you've studied the most recent techniques...

Hate to tell you this but, you were redundant when you were hired. In the old days graduate students were protected for a few years from being let go. Not the case any more. Take the advice and get with a company that has a long term vision that works.

@2hcp+1t0Nz4cB Is 100% spot on. Definitely not the same company I joined as an XP. I lost count of the number of reorgs and MORs.

Coming from a proud former employee that bled the Pectan and was dedicated to solving tough and impactful engineering problems (with three consecutive years of Outstanding rating), tread carefully. This is not the company that it used to be. I went through 3 MORs in 10 years and finally exited Shell through an asset divestment. You will be wasting your talent and career if you are in the organizations of Robin or Shirley - their careers have been built on divestments and reorgs. So weigh in your options and make unemotional data driven decisions. It is no longer the era where if you were loyal and a high/top performer, the company took care of you

You're done. At 6 months, you definitely do not have the recognition and network to be able to compete.

If you are a male, new hire, experienced hire, and white, you are out of luck

Our VP openly said new hires are first to consider when it comes to layoffs

Depending on your country location. I heard (which may not be 100% correct) is that if you are in NL, it is basically last in first out. Other countries may not be the case.

Definitely increase the possibility. This is an anti experienced hire environment if you have not noticed.

I do not think you would be redundant simply because you joined later. It was harder to bring people on the last 6 months so that usually required extra justification and so you may be more valued. Now if your role is going away and you have to apply to other areas and no one has ever heard of you, that could be a problem. Go network.
