Whoever is getting RIFed, I wish you all the luck and hope you will be back on your feet in no time. To the rest, there will be workload multiplied by the number of people being let go, and also a prolonged reorganization, so whoever is still here, in this already bad workplace, after this round - it will be no fun. Hard to decide which is worse - to be RIFed or kept.

I agree, saying no can be a shocker for those without any comprehension on boundaries. It is the managers job to prioritize work. I do not work more than 40 hrs. I do not take on work from decisions others make. Progress is what matters. Consistent progress. Bonus or raise has nothing to do with effort at this Corporation. This job is where you work between good opportunities. If you stay too long, you start to forget your value and accept things like reduction in force and entire job duties being given to you on top of what your being paid. Yal need to get your head looked at if your doing that right now
Wow that has to be the most naive comment I’ve heard! I have lived through multiple layoffs and if you don’t accept the extra work you are capped and removed on the next round. You are ostracized and lose all potential future opportunities. Leadership is full of bullies, a--holes, and just downright mean spirited narcissists. Yeah you can say no! Lmao
I don’t know what department you work for, but the teams I’ve worked on will all put you over 100% on a normal day, so I have no doubt in my mind that they would not hesitate to put employees up to 150% or 175% capacity after a RIF. Push back and you’re not a team player and that’ll go right on your review that you did not share the burden or something similar.
It's interesting that someone assumes you will automatically be given the work of others when their are layoffs. It is quite easy to say no, I cannot do it. If they push back, you then list the work you already have that covers your 40 hrs a week you get paid. It is only those who don't actually work who should be concerned when given extra work. I do not work for free. If it cannot be done in the hrs I am compensated for, it can wait.
