Does anyone know why some are being paid through December and others only through August?

Some are being forced to transition work (which I had to do for two weeks). Then they allow 90 days to find work in company which is paid. Then severance package which can be upwards of 40 weeks of pay.
Probably from the buddy buddy system there.
