Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Any layoffs in navi today 5/16?

Or is it only other areas of Optum?

I saw a comment in another post saying home and community will next have cuts in June/july? Not sure if Navi is included in that or not, but I would assume so.

A good rule of thumb regarding the managers that swear left right and sideways that they’ll warn you if they hear about layoff is, when it actually happens, they won’t. When the rubber hits the road, they won’t want to risk their job by warning you, even if there is no way the company could find out. Becuase in the end, they find yes men, for lack of a better term. People who eat, sleep and breathe UHG to take those positions. So don’t count on that warning they promise you. If they do say they’ll tell you, just be mindful that it’s your first warning that they cannot be trusted.
The ONLY way they actually will, is if they’re going down with you.

I find it a bit pointless to ask your leadership if there are layoffs. CASE IN POINT: in February, the structure was [me] --> [supervisor] --> [manager] --> [director] --> [VP]. my supervisor went to my director and asked if jobs were at risk. supervisor was told no, everything's fine. two days later, layoffs were announced. the VP was shifted to a less-vital role, the director was laid off, the manager was shifted, and the supervisor was shifted. so as someone else in this thread mentioned, they may well tell you, "no, you're fine," and it's not that they're lying. it's that they haven't heard anything themselves.

things to consider:

  • the person telling you not to worry about your job going away may only be repeating what they have been told - they are not lying, but they may be hearing lies
  • the least risky position for the company to take is ambiguity - they may know layoffs are happening, but RiF needs to happen on their terms and their schedule - if employees start jumping ship too early, it leaves them with fewer options
  • companies need to stop telling their employees they are like family - they want you to be loyal family members while treating you like a commodity - i get it, I am a commodity, so don't be mad when I act like one and worry more about my interests than yours -- after all, that's what you're doing

"They reassured us our jobs are safe!" - There is no such thing as job safety/security when dealing with large corporations. They do not care about the employees, only the return on investment.

NaviHealth is going to cut more. Just be prepared. They won’t need as many SICC after Blue Cross leaves. Preservice should get hit first. All departments will be affected. I am not trying to be negative but how can they function while losing this and potentially other contracts. Most insurance companies don’t want to be managed by a competitor especially with privacy issues, lawsuits and exposing client info.
