BNSF CMOS met with corporate in Fort Worth today, 1600 layoffs coming system wide ahead of June to prevent payment of contract raises in June and annual 120 day accrued vacation time prior to separation for next year, cuts will be announced starting next week, mechanical will be hit especially hard, Tulsa to be shut down outside of a truck to prevent mechanical personnel from chasing work, pipe fitters and cab carpenters system wide, 20% reduction in force in mech Temple, Belen, Alliance, Topeka, Lincoln, Havre…, TY&E to be announced

I would like to see the source the op used for this. 1600 seems awfully high. I could see them cutting the remaining cab carpenter and pipe fitter jobs, for sure. Not sure how many of them are left system wide. They took a decent chunk of carmen last round, too.
But they are really pushing for 10hr shop and 12hr yard jobs. If they implement both before June, I could see 1/3 of the carmen getting cut.
I’m wondering why they even bother with carmen at all at this point… they’ve massaged CFR 215.13 into the FRA mindset so easily, they might as well go full tilt with train crew inspections. I just don’t see any argument against eliminating QMIs altogether. It’s obvious that this would violate federal regulations but according to the FRA themselves (trust me, I asked them) they can’t enforce 215.13. Any actual enforcement would “require CONGRESSIONAL action, spurred by union complaints. And we all know how much teeth are left in the union’s mouth.
Ok let’s analyze, cab carpenters have been having their jobs cut for years whether abolished or Carmen cuts in general, laborers have been taking over service racks and fuel racks system wide and are being trained to perform FRA inspections for SFS and SML inspections system wide, which means laborers performing inspections to find defects that they really have no clue what to look for is the company’s way of cutting other mechanical craft, because less defects found means less mechanical staff needed to fix the problems. Every region has a CMO and they regularly meet to decided how to implement company initiatives system wide. Pipe fitters have been getting reduced, as a matter of fact every layoff catches them just a little bit more, their days are numbered. So how ever many get furloughed at this point, it’s been no secret since March, more were coming, no one knew how many or what the game plan might be, but rest assured the company was pushing for 12 hour shifts for a reason to locals, which means they were already planning large cuts to include cutting shops with 3 shifts down to 2, and mechanical was going to be overwhelmingly their next target. Any person who argues those points is a du----s or a company spoke’s person looking to do damage control now that the cats out the bag

Probably dissolved all together is the best guess at this point but when it happens everyone will know, pipe fitters already got hit hard, looks like days are numbered
are you alluding SMW (pipefitters) system wide are being decreased again (first wave March15th) or being dissolved altogether?
I guess Tulsa not having/losing a GE contract coming home to roost, 110 days, for newer workers, 100 days for older heads, either way 20% is a deep cut
