Yup. What do Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, US Steel, Bethlehem Steel, and Lehman Bros all have in common? They ALL went to the very brink of bankruptcy or else went completely over the falls despite having had virtually every competitive advantage imaginable on their sides. What's the problem? Bad management- which is the most common form of management. That's why something like forty percent of all companies that survive their infancy don't make it to their fifth anniversaries. If MS isn't careful, it will be next. If you want to protect your job, read a piece titled The Hatchet Man's Playbook. It's all about lay offs and corporate politics and how to beat them. All the best!
