Thread regarding Optum layoffs

AbleTo

Writing this review as a former employee of AbleTo, a private mental health company acquired by Optum in August 2023. Over the past nine months, I've witnessed a devastating transformation. Following the acquisition, top performers and talents fled the company in droves, seeking better opportunities elsewhere. Then, on April 22, Optum laid off approximately 50% of the remaining AbleTo staff, affecting various roles including engineering, product, and project management. To add insult to injury, many of these positions are being filled by contractors in India, prioritizing cost-cutting over employee welfare. It's clear that the primary focus is maximizing profits for shareholders, with individual contributors like myself left feeling disposable and vulnerable to termination, regardless of performance. With another round of layoffs reportedly coming in Q3, I feel compelled to share my experience and warn others about the harsh reality of working under Optum's ownership.

Has anyone else from AbleTo been let go since the layoffs in April?

I left Ableto mid year 2022. When I left, I got an almost $20k increase they paid so low yet I was booked 40 hours/ week with clients changed to my desk, unable to take any time for my kids appointments and working through lunch. After I left, they cut a lot of the PA staff and coaches. I only know 1 person that works there from when I was there 2 years later

Nothing new Ingenix/optum been doing this for 20 years. Its all about market share butcher the acquisition send the parts to rendering move on to next target. SOP in the M and A world no matter what industry you are in. Bondholders and shareholders have been the only thing that matters and always will be. With AI soon you wont need many of the offshore people either. Think of the savings no PTO , no benefits, no DEI as liabilities.

Locusts. UHG upper leadership and board members seem to be nothing more than scavenging insects.

Funny you should post about Able To! This week a member told me she was unable to access the tools on the site. We keep going from bad to worse. Just waiting for either a layoff or the org to implode!!!

Thank you for sharing. Sadly, I fear not even losing business will light the bulb to force a change in direction. They’ll probably just force more layoffs until they turn UHG into the Dollar General of Health Insurance.
