Walgreens has sale on peanut butter for 2 for $5. However, most of the stores carry only one jar of peanut butter or three. I want to buy four but they never have enough in the store. And the managers told me that only Walgreens corporate office has control of the amount of stock they put in the store. But if it's on sale, then why doesn't walgreens corporate send at least 10 items to the store a week before the sale starts so customers can buy the sale item. This is why Walgreens is failing. It doesn't satisfy it's customers needs.

So we stopped doing rain checks awhile ago but the store should have price modified the price down but the issue here is that you as a customer don’t realize that employees have continuously been sc--wed over time and time again by corporate and the employee morale company wide is rock bottom now but what you should have done is call 1 800 Walgreens to complain about the issue instead of coming to complain on here because there are some that will not be that nice to you about this. You have to options either call the customer support center or send in a very low score on a receipt survey and complain of the issue and it would have to be addressed by that store. If you scroll though some of the posts on here you will realize what the employee morale is like
Also, a cashier or manager should be able to change the price manually to $2.50. This includes if there is only one to buy. This also includes if you get the two for $5 and then you want to add on that third one and get that third one modifying to $2.50 as well. The cashiers have the ability to do this although if they are confused, you should ask for a manager. I hope they accommodate you.

Would you be able to ask a store manager for a rain check. If the cashier doesn't know about rain checks, please consider asking for a store manager.
Would you be able to buy the item online (I know our systems are wonky so this may not be the ideal solution).
