Any word on if it was HCL that caused the cyber attack?
I agree with the last comment. I wouldn't be surprised if HCL caused the issue and got Ascension to pay them the 22 million!!!! I heard it was an inside job.
HCL SU-KS, they destroy everything in their path. Most companies they come in contact with suffer severe consequences. If you're considering hiring HCL don't do it. They employ dr-g addicts. They look for losers so they can underpay them. The HR department is useless. Payroll is even worse then useless.
How would they even get their money back from HCL? US Courts are useless in these cases. They'd have to sue in India.
But the people who run Ascension are all millionaires, so doubtful they even give a sh-t. They'll just move on to the next victim, I mean position, where they can talk about their Pelatons and lake houses while on meetings about layoffs and outsourcing.
anyone else with VPN and remote access still out today?
My guess is they still store all of their passwords in their config files. I told management repeatedly that this leaves you wide open to attacks. They ignored these strong suggestions and eventually outsourced IT to HCL. I can't wait for them to fix this so that it happens again.

Somebody clicked on a URL in an email they shouldn't have...
As someone who wants everyone to receive the best healthcare possible, I'm saddened by this news. As someone who was canned when they outsourced the IT Dept, I'm delighted.
IT should have never been outsourced to a 3rd world country. Ridiculous. Head honchos want more money to themselves now look what has happened. I'm sick of opening tickets for things to get fixed and the users just say it's good cuz they are sick of talking to non Americans. Bring back the local people that can speak English clearly please
Well, I wasn't asked for my bday or SSN for a hardware issue. In fact, I just chatted last month for a laptop problem and had to get a replacement part and they didn't ask me to validate that stuff. Lucky me I guess, LOL. No standard process from those over seas teams.
Was this related to the secret nightingale project?
"Ascension OT outsourced India. Probably same people doing scam calls. They ask for your birthdate an last 4 of social security number to open any ticket. Which I don't provide."
We already have your birth date and the last four of you SSN. We ask to verify you are who you say you are. If you don't provide it, good luck.
False. Indiana asks for your Ssn and birthday even for hardware issues where they have to send someone.
To the person who said " They ask for your birthdate an last 4 of social security number to open any ticket." you are wrong. You are only asked for personal information like that when you need a password reset so they can verify you. Opening a ticket for app support or other issues does not require a birthday or SSN validation.
Appears to be a national issue

Definitely widespread.seen confirmations that Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, and Texas are all affected. Very possible there could be more.

Internally HCL isn't called '3rd party' so they are probably working with Microsoft, Cisco, Extreme and 3rd parties like that.
Who is third party specialists? HCL ROFL

Got hacked
It was inevitable after the shedding of internal expertise in the overseas outsourcing
It’s an external attack…. Someone got access to the Ascension network and they are encrypting or blocking all access…. From what I heard… Ascension is running around unplugging devices from the Network to minimize damage….. but it appears it is a total outage…. How could this happen when the ‘Experts’ are now running the business as was stated by Rick Monroe a couple years ago….hehe
No idea, it's quite curious...
