Thread regarding VMware layoffs

New company name Omnissa

From Robert Ruleas : I am so excited to launch our new company name: Omnissa https://www.omnissa.com/ 😁 .

We are still a company of Broadcom until we launch as a separate independent company in a few months. While lots of things might be changing, our Purpose is the same: We empower employees
to do their best work from anywhere through smart, seamless, and secure experiences. We will continue to be focused on working with our customers and partners to deliver on this meaningful mission. A special thanks goes to our customers and partners that believe in our strategy and have invested in our solutions. Every thing we do is for you!!

Bass was a terrible CTO for VMware EUC.

Endpoint management is not a big enough market to sustain Omnissa. This will be EPIC levels of flailing for 2 years before it all gets shut down.

Will Omnissa maintain VMware's status as a leader in the EUC market? The good news for everyone is that there’s a lot of runway here, so the opportunity for growth is still high. Enterprise Strategy Group research indicates that Unified Endpoint Management is deployed in 34% of organizations compared to 37% for traditional management. Those still using traditional management (plus the 29% that aren’t doing either) remain a pretty large market for modern endpoint management companies.

"In the end there will be Microsoft and Citrix and someone who owns VMware EUC IP."

Yeah, believe me, Citrix isn't doing all that great either. The "partnership" with Microsoft is in name only. You know how many sales teams at Microsoft were promoting Citrix when there was significant financial incentive to do so? None that I ever saw. Citrix has been losing share to MS just as much as VMware.

Agreed, the WS1 and Horizon apps are obsolete software ported to the cloud as SaaS. Why KKR would want to fund these old apps is still a mystery to me. Didn't they talk to the industry analysts and some customers to get a realistic outlook for EUC BU potential?

Private equity companies may be staffed with smart Ivy League MBAs, but they don't know a declining business model when they see one. Only a d-e-a-t-h spiral awaits EUC.

Omnissa won't be here In a few years. MS has already decimated Airwatch and without steep vSphere discounting and ELA bundling from Broadcom VDI will never generate enough revenue to sustain anything. In the end there will be Microsoft and Citrix and someone who owns VMware EUC IP.

Shankar - the new magoo

Keep in mind, in a couple of years KKR will flip VMware EUC for a nice profit, and the new owner (likely another legacy IT software vendor) will also downsize the employee headcount as they consolidate duplicate functions like HR, marketing, finance, etc.

The rightsizing process is never-ending as the EUC customer base continues to shrink.

"While lots of things might be changing, our Purpose is the same:"

This point of view should be troubling to KKR, because the prior EUC purpose was to maintain the status quo while the customer base continued to slowly decline.

EUC leaders have no aspirations to upskill their team capabilities or aspire to grow the business over time. That's why, as soon as the job market recovers, I'm leaving. The absence of any kind of 'bold goal' is consistently uninspired. Low expectations all around.

It's clear to anyone who has attended the EUC all-hands meetings that our leaders (Rob included) are not being briefed on the KKR plans or the impact on headcount. I don't know why Shankar is still in the dark about what comes next, but he is making things up so as not to appear foolish. I'm not falling for the 'guesses' they have presented so far.

"are all EUC employees/products moving to Omnissa?"

KKR is already having second thoughts about their restructuring plans. Be patient...

Rob may be excited, but the rest of EUC sales are not eager to move from one myopic private equity owner to another (KKR). We desperately need new leadership skilled and experienced in driving growth - clearly, that's not our current EUC leadership team.

Hopefully management will be better equipped to run a company than they were with the botched migration.
