It all went down hill when they got rid of some fantastic leaders over the last couple of years. These layoffs are generally made with zero consideration for the TYPE of quality people they’re letting go.

There were tons of people who gave a damn and actually cared however, SP never attempted to figure out which folks those actually were.

When you make decisions on a spread sheet, this is the result you get….the results are only going to get worse from here.

I feel for everyone still there, morale has to be at an all time low.

I’ll have my pound of flesh soon enough..

It’s not 100% about who the president is of course but Staples promoted many people based off qualities other than leadership and drive to expand the business. This is evident considering many of those people are no longer at the company. Terrible leaders were put in place because of terrible ideology.

Good ole BCG. I remember these “consultants” well. Absolute clowns. If their strategy worked, it was all because of their brilliance. If it failed, it was because operations or sales sc--wed it up. Pretty good gig. Zero accountability. These fools have been a part so many failed initiatives over the years. Circling the drain!

Keep in mind that it is BCG that is running the show, the management you complain about is simply following their failed prescriptions.

Do you recall the story of when the Titanic was sinking? The members of the band, played while others were loaded in the lifeboats, in an effort to keep them calm. This ship is going down. Perhaps not this year but it is sinking. Wake up. Don’t be part of the band, trying to keep others calm. Spruce up your resume and get out, while you are in charge of your options!

Yeah spp lost a lot of people, one person in particular worked there 30 yrs and just yesterday was her work anniversary where they thanked her for her hard work and being invaluable etc and then today let her go. Guess she wasnt really "invaluable".

Whomever said Quill is never hit with a layoff is incorrect. Quill never had layoffs until Staples bought it out. Sycamore has been even worse hacking up Quill. Quill as a whole has maybe 400 employees left. Headquarters had 1500 people alone before Staples became the parent company. Then there were also the warehouses in other states.

Feels like SDS hasn’t been feeling the pain of these cuts with some areas within SDS actually adding expensive headcount (quite a few new directors coming from another company). Seems like something has to give at some point.

what you heard is bullsh-t. AS cuts today were responsible for more being ahead more than $2 million dollars in sales in Q1 while being the lowest paid people in the sales org while running a 48% margin. So whoever told you that is full of dog sh-t. IAE sellers cut were equally responsible for green target achievements. Public sector down 12% on the qtr and everyones eating ice cream unaffected. sh-tshow

Seeing a lot of "status unknown" circles on teams from a lot of really good people today...very sad but at the same time, there's not really one single person to blame.

It's a tough macro environment out there, and from what I've Heard from the director in VP level, IAE's and AS's we're not making enough money for the company to pay for their positions.

Trust me when I say that the grass is much Greener at other sales organizations.

Why is it always Staples that have to loose their jobs? Quill has never been hit with a layoff.
