Thread regarding VMware layoffs

VMC on AWS is not totally not dead!!!!

It's just that the people selling it that are saying it's dead.

Yes it's true that the reseller agreement expired and they have no reason to sell it anymore, and in fact are actively trying to convert customers to EC2. But that doesn't mean it's not available, right?

And yes, there are no quotes available for this product, but that's because of Day2 tech issues of course! Broadcom had no way of knowing that Day2 was coming. They had no way of fixing the quote system ahead of time. So hopefully it will be fixed next week, and we can start going back to selling a product that our partner is actively steering our customers away from.

Go Hock! For great profit!

Because how difficult it is to quote and more difficult to deploy (and with no support), when I was at Bcom (post acquisition), I told customers and resellers “we no longer sell that”. It was all about my personal workload management.

Sorry. It's DEAD. Pay attention to what Hock is NOT saying.

Notice in the blog, there's no mention of new customers. Hock only references existing customers and how they can procure more or renew the contract. There's a massive layoff coming for employees in VMC BU, mostly in engineering. There won't be any new features or innovations. Hock will keep the lights on for existing customers until the contract runs out. Hock is allowing existing customers to renew so that the customers have time to migrate off the platform.

"What this means is that customers who previously purchased VMware Cloud on AWS from AWS will now work with Broadcom or an authorized Broadcom reseller to renew their subscriptions and expand their environments. Customers who have active one- or three-year subscriptions with monthly payments that were purchased from AWS will continue to be invoiced by AWS until the end of their term." - Hock

Dead by Broadcom's hand or dead because of what is being signaled to the market. Same end result. The writing has been on the wall for a long time, and every other partner/hyperscaler is going to spin the FUD as much as they can.

At this point, it really doesn't matter what the plan was, reality is "it's dead".

That article is vague and doesn't really say much. Read it closely.

Yeah man.. not quoting anymore and no deal with AMZ infra which the service depends on , are all great future of the product. AMZ has always been converting our workloads to native. Only Raghu can’t see it. Let’s under estimate the book seller again and hock can beat them. I wish you the best
