Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Are Amazon actually recruiting?

I get multiple alerts for AWS every day for solutions architect jobs. I've applied for 10 now and I haven't even had one single interview. CSAA, CSAP and ML certified here, been a solutions architect for probably 12-15 years now. I thought I would at least have had one call back

Are you insiders actually aware if there are jobs there, or are they just resume farming?

Top performers have options outside of Amazon and they always feel safe - they know their worth, can get another job, and many do. If middle of the rung employees proactively leave too, then you've got... ding ding... low performers! Speaking of which, Selipsky is leaving!

Top performers normally feel safe until layoff hits their a##. It's normally the middle of the rung (stuck in their levels) types that proactively leave.

No yearly raises and no RSU grants will get Amazon attrition for sure... except it means that the top performers will leave. So where does that leave Amazon? With low performers! Ding!

If top brass wants attrition how would it be achieved by raises or RSUs?

Is Amazon learning? No RSU's, no raises for performance?

There can be very long hiring cycles at large companies and governments. Smaller firms will usually be quicker and more personal. I've found this to be a very difficult to understand industry in hiring individuals or firms to do some web design and programming for myself. I'm not sure where to turn to get the services and programming I need.

Maybe you just need to change your approach? If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.

I am employed in FAANG doing just fine. Recruiter persisted I sent the resume. I would require something very attractive to go back to Amazon. I doubt they would meet my requirements. I imagine they are super selective these days.

Well, that's frustrating. Thanks for the insight. I don't think I'll bother in future. Annoying but that's life I guess. Their loss!

Most of the people they just laid off were about your experience (L6/Senior) or higher and most of the roles they opened are L5 because the recent layoffs were just a way to rebalance teams with more junior talent (and get cost savings, obviously). In addition, every opening has dozens of internal candidates so hiring managers aren't even bothering to talk to their sourcer to see external resumes.

Recruiter has contacted me and scheduled first phone screen for L6 or L7 ML/AI engineering role.
