Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

241 Days Left Until 50 Stores Close

With so much going on in our stores it is easy to forget that 50 stores will be closing by the end of this year. If these 50 stores have an average of 100 employees, that will be 5000 additional Macy's colleagues and Managers impacted.

Only 39 weeks remaining for the people who work at these locations. Keep in mind that right now is the best time of the year to find a new job and avoid the end of year scramble to secure employment when there will be so many others looking for similar positions.

In addition to the benefit of job security, finding a position outside of Macy's will have the added benefit allowing you to avoid what is sure to be a brutal holiday season with less hours and staffing in the closing stores.

Don't forget, nobody knows for certain which stores are closing. Can you and your family afford to take the chance yours won't be one of them?

What audacity to call the new strategy a "Bold New Chapter" when the company is planning on closing 150 stores. It seems like a more fitting name would be "Welcome to the Last Chapter", or "End of Story". Opening a handful of small format stores that will do a fraction of the volume of the locations that will be closing doesn't seem that bold, more like surrendering to difficult market headwinds.

If my store does close I will sink with this ship and they will be paying me unemployment until I find something better, pfft. Can’t scare me off.

Well, it’s possible to close 50 stores at once and they have done that before I would think they would want to do it two parts which would mean one would have to start June July at the latest.

If not, I would end of Q3 into Q4 oct-dec clean up the first week of January and out the door

Your theory regarding corporate fear mongering is quite a stretch...just saying.
I took it as someone trying to help in a responsible & thoughtful manner.

They’ll announce them in August/September so they are done by years end.

But no they are reviewing EVERYTHING the malls themselves, sales, geographic locations, leases etc. it takes time. 🫣🫠

You know what this strikes me as? Corporate trying to instill fear in those of us still employed by the giant Red Star Elephant: "Quit now so we can lower our overhead costs and not have to pay unemployment as we compete against our fellow stores to avoid being among the first 50 doors to close. " Stop the fear-mongering. Things are bad enough.
