Thread regarding Optum layoffs

What can you share with Congress and Medicare about the data breach?

https://www.reuters.com/technology/cybersecurity/unitedhealth-hackers-took-advantage-citrix-vulnerabilty-break-ceo-says-2024-04-29/

According to CEO, criminals breached the UHG systems through a portal that didn't have multi-factor authentication.

According to CEO, but for some reason, which we continue to investigate, this particular server did not have MFA on it. The CEO is too little, too late. He should have gotten to the bottom of one of the largest data breaches in American history long before he testified before Congress.
According to the CEO, UHG paid a $22 million dollar ransom in the form of bitcoin to the criminals.

According to UHG, the stolen personal information could cover a "substantial portion of the American people.", including people who weren't even UHG customers. How can that be?.

This hack occurred because the CEO and his team personally transferred tens of thousands of American jobs to India and the Philippines, where there are few, if any privacy laws, and security is not a priority.
We believe it is illegal for people in other countries to access information on American health insurance claims, including Medicare and Medicaid.
If you have any information about how any company allows people in other countries to access information on American health insurance claims, etc. please send a letter to the

You can send credible, accurate information anonymously too.

You should also notify the Medicare Board of Trustees

You should also notify you state's Attorney General

We believe many investigations are warranted here to investigate a company out of control.

Honestly pretty shocked that word hasn’t got out more about these mass layoffs, especially in the wake of this cyber attack. You would think their customer base would want to know that their insurance company, who is supposed to be all hands on deck securing their data just deleted 30~ish % of their workforce. Perhaps this would all get cleared up quicker if they had kept more people employed.

"Change Healthcare had done their due diligence." Not one senior leader in Change cared. I had visibility into their systems. They would not listen to reason about secure measures and all hiring managers were explicitly told 'security isn't the concern. getting the data moved is.'

This whole cyberattack with Change Healthcare is going to cost all of the employees stateside. The bad thing is that while people are heavily pointing the finger at offshore workers and Witty it is the leadership and Change Healthcare leadership and employees that UHG bought who are the immediate problem and threat. They are the subsidiary that didn't have MFA and it's worse with this company than it was before because of their lack of accountability and caring. UHG bears responsibility too because within 30 days of acquisition, they should've made sure Change Healthcare had done their due diligence. While I have not explicitly heard about layoffs many people have been leaving every week. Many of these are people who came along with Change Healthcare. All the money that is being poured into fixing Change Healthcare missteps is going to cost money and jobs. Everyone buckle up and prepare those resumes if you already haven't. Safe landings.

We need to know where the servers that had the breach were housed. If those servers were housed in India, the American people need to know that, and the executives must be held accountable.

When Witty and Wichman sent tens of thousands of jobs to India and other countries, they violated all sort of laws. The problem is that the American people are not familiar with these laws so they are not speaking up. Now is the time to speak up.
Contact the
National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
https://content.naic.org/
They can order a nationwide investigation and get to the bottom of this mess.

"I would like to know what country the server was in, as well as what nationality was the IT staff that were to be managing it."

I hope, they disclose some day. Also, whose credentials were stolen and which application?

Executives get most of their compensation from stock. If you want to get paid. 1000 shares in and take 1000 shares out. Has nothing to do with the hack. It is how they get paid.

I would like to know what country the server was in, as well as what nationality was the IT staff that were to be managing it.

  • No MFA
  • No Monitoring of accounts
  • No monitoring of activity
  • Poor Redundancy
  • Nine days is more than just being asleep at the wheel.

If it was due to getting Cheap labor, shame on Neil and shame on UHG. But who am I to ask these things. I love my job and coworkers. I hate the heartache and worry.

Sorry Witty and his amazing board members sold their stock and made millions? This is a bump in the road for this company. I will say, if the company ever wants to recover/redeem themselves, Sir needs to go back to England and seek life elsewhere.
