Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

I thought it was a bogus post but apparently not so.

This is going to read rather lame but I truly can’t think of a way to be specific without jeopardizing the “who”.

I read a post that claimed that HR was pressuring managers to place bogus or exaggerated infractions or perceived infractions in employees files to get them to quit. Better to have them quit rather than to payout severance. I thought that was a stretch of a claim to make.

Fast forward, I know two managers on a close level each of who don’t run in the same circles. Each have related the same thing as was expressed in post I read. That’s all I feel comfortable saying at this time. I now do believe that this is all true. I don’t think its on a massive scale but I do think it is happening here and there.

Be careful everybody.

Citi bragged about the amount of $ they paid out in the first round of layoffs. Well yes and no. The 300 MD’s they let go make way more than the normal employee, so their severance payout was way more.

Its true that the layoffs are over with…..FOR NOW. Phase 4 of of round 1 of the layoffs is done. Round 2 of the layoffs begin again this summer for NY\NJ. Money is tight, do more with less is not working and risks are up. Now there is pressure for MD to drive people out to keep from paying out severance.

Next will be a drastically reduced severance paid out by Citi.

I asked a manager who, if asked, has always told me the truth. They never volunteered any info though, you have to ask. Well I asked if this was true. The answer was “it’s happening”. He never stated to what degree or who. I didn’t push on it.

Sad, regretful and unfortunate.

It's not bogus I'm already seeing that direction being taken. I want to quit but I know I can't do it immediately, but I can't go on like this for 1-2 years.

Some of it may be directed, other is people's insecurity and competing for what they perceive as keeping their job.

I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s an expected move given the amount of people left to layoff and Citi’s position in the marketplace.

That's terrible if it is true. However, the corporate world is pretty shady
