What is the rubric for being laid off? Do they pick low performers, highest earners, or is it just if your leadership team likes you?

No. Really having been in leadership for over 15 years layoffs target lower performers, unnecessary positions or top heavy management with few direct reports or skill set. Of course when business is lost or government changes impact revenue larger layoffs occur and they will include great employees. It's hard to see and often director don't get a say...management who lead efficient and productive staff are impacted the least. It is never pleasant or tough on everyone. I am newly retired but I feel for everyone.
