I hope the insider trading is also investigated. These people knew exactly what they were doing.

That was rough to watch but it was good to see the folks on the congressional panel call a spade a spade. Each one did a stellar job bringing up new perspectives on the situation and what should be solved go-forward. Can this disruption be the catalyst to accelerate change in healthcare for the better? While I can dream, I won't hold my breath. As for the hot-seat performance, I would have liked to see Andrew be more concise and to the point with responses. It pains me that so much unnecessary fluff is added to the speech. How many times did the panel participants have to repeat their questions requesting Andrew to answer directly? Lastly, for the online version I watched, they didn't cut the feed right away after the panel was dismissed. There were protestors in the room chanting, 'Andrew Witty you can't hide; we can see your greedy side!' Anybody else catch that?

Senator Warren was on fire and hit the nail right-on-the head stating: "UHG is a monopoly on steroids" and the pièce de rèsistance - "using a practice called 'upcoding'"...BINGO!!

I don't believe a word he says. They are desperate to peel attention away from offshore.

AW will play the victim card and probably should be awarded best actor performance for the upcoming hearing at 12pm EST.

KP health hospital was forthcoming and transparent to the public on the latest data breach - put a number on how many affected.

It’s been 2 months since Feb 21 attack with this org, AW is still talking in circle without putting a number on how many consumers were/are affected. You just can’t take the spots out of the leopard.

parts of the statement, and the subtext, as see it.
Todays hearing
AW: Today’s Hearing
I appreciate the Committee’s interest in the recent cyberattack on Change Healthcare. The cyberattack was unprecedented, as the criminals who perpetrated it caused incredible disruption across the health care system.
Translation: “unprecented” scope = so large how can we be expected to have managed it better? perpetrated by criminals (shift any blame to the big bad CRIMINALS, ewww scary)

AW: We have been working 24/7 from the day of the incident and have deployed the full resources of UnitedHealth Group on all aspects of our response and restoration efforts. I want this Committee and the American public to know that the people of UnitedHealth Group will not rest – I will not rest – until we fix this.
Translation: We will not REST, and the people we did not fire will not rest either as they have to take on even more workload to an already burdened system that has yet to fully remedy this attack.

AW: Cyberattacks continue to increase in frequency and significance, with one analysis calculating that in 2023, cybercriminals collected an all-time high of over $1 billion in ransom.1 …. These criminals continue to adapt and develop more sophisticated and malicious methodologies, and they have increasingly targeted critical infrastructure, including schools, government agencies and the health care sector. These adversaries are willing to attack everything from community hospitals to pharmacies to networks like ours that enable the information exchange necessary to provide care.
translation: see, other industries impacted, so don’t just pick on us.

The Ransomware Attack
….
Our response was swift and forceful. Not knowing the entry point of the attack at the time, we immediately severed connectivity with Change’s data centers to eliminate the potential for further infection. …..
Within hours of the ransomware launch, we contacted the FBI and remain in regular
communication. We shared critical information, including details about the intrusion, the method of attack, Indicators of Compromise (IOC) and other information that would assist in their investigation. We are grateful for the FBI’s work on this matter and the support they have provided, and we will continue to share information that will enable law enforcement to pursue, capture and bring these criminals to justice.
Translation: Let’s highlight all the amazing things we did immediately post-attack to show how great we are, but not mention we were legally obligated to do these things ANYWAY.

AW: As chief executive officer, the decision to pay a ransom was mine. This was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. And I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Translation: Oh poor me, I am the head of a company and in that role I am making millions of dollars every year to compensate for the responsibility, had to make a difficult decision. How very tough for you. Didn’t seem so tough a decision to layoff the many individuals helping you manage this attacks’ aftermath. Or at least you didn’t have the integrity to talk with your employees about that decision in an open forum.

AW: 3. Payer and Provider Support
Yadda yadda yadda
translation: We did all these costly and amazing things to help our patients, and as a thanks to our employees DOING this work, we let a large percentage of them go, increasing the workload of those remaining. Instead of maybe cutting back on C-Suite bonuses or salary.
