I am Seagate engineer with about 20+ years of experience in seagate. If I had been laid off in seagate - I would have got about 42 weeks of severance package.
Had a question for VMWare folks -
when broadcom laid off vmware engineers - did they honor the seniority of the employees and take that into account during layoff/severance package ?
What was broadcom's severance package ?

If anything i think younger people where hit hardest. All graduates let go, lower sales associate roles went and from what I saw teams that shrunk, tried to keep the best talent. So younger less experienced let go.
But 100% cuts where across everywhere, all ages, all roles, all races, all genders... Broadcom seemed very DEI fair with there culling, as you're just a number to them. Nothing more, nothing less.
The better question is how many VMW employees over the age of 50 did BC select to layoff vs how many under 50 were retained.
Just curious....
Assume the worst , that is what Hock Autan delivers.
Depends how your management negotiated with Broadcom. Depends on perspective, some regions got great severance and volunteered for it, others wish they had it. Those who stayed are staying for the RSUs and hope not to be fired before they get it. While some drink the kool aid and it’s the best thing that happened to them. To each their own. Only certainty is lay offs is the way of life and Hock is not your buddy or give two sh-t about you.
@OP+1shuqiXZ: VMware leadership claimed to have gone to bat for VMW USA employees in negotiating the following (c&p from the offer letter we received):
- 4 months of base salary, if required to work for the entirety of the Notice Period.
- 1 week of employee’s base salary, without pro-ration for any partial year of service, up to a maximum of twelve weeks.
- 3 months COBRA Subsidy. If the eligible employee elects and enrolls in VMware COBRA within whatever deadlines are specified, the Company will waive the COBRA premium for continuation of the employee’s healthcare insurance (medical, vision, dental, and EAP) for the employee and their eligible enrolled dependents for the next three calendar months following the termination date
The above terms are purportedly good for 1 year after close of acquisition, which means that come Oct '24, anyone laid off from the former VMW will have severance on Broadcom's terms—don't know what those are.
VMware severance was honored for people terminated at close and for those that were notified of layoff but with a delayed date (transition employees). Can't promise that will be the case for y'all but that's what they did for us.
Also, if you were in the transition group, you get 50% salary bonus for the transition period if you work until it's done. Su-ks to be out the door, but the packages weren't bad.
A packet of chips and a slap on the a**
Yes they did, your tenure is reflected in the package.
Package itself depended on region. In Ireland / eu / non 3rd world employment law region as an example it was 6 weeks per year. In America it was probably a pat on the back and a packet of chips.
