I thought not being laid off would be a good thing, but I was so incredibly wrong. This is not the VMware I knew and liked working at anymore. And unlike many, I have no intention of staying and continuing to work for a company that I hate. Life is too short for that cr-p.

Rest and vest!
Here’s the thing. I hate Broadcom from an engineering standpoint. Everything here su-ks. On the other hand, I’m in my mid 30’s and a P5 in LCOL. Every year I put up with here (I’m fully remote and FAR from an office so when I say “here” I mean at home) is probably 2-3 years off the end of my career. I’m just doing the minimum instead of my usual overachieving and if I get hit with a layoff at some point, so be it.
Nah, I'm taking it easy and not creating shareholder value
"Don't you have more important things to do? "
Dont you?
@OP: You ain't alone. There are loads that accepted BC welcome offer but now regretting it. I wouldn't mind being included on the next round to be honest. Wonder what Broadcom's severance package is though as compared to that of VMware.
"bye then - stop bleating in a stupid forum like this and get on with your life"
Why are you here on this forum, if you're a happy Broadcom employee? You don't expect to be laid off because you like their culture. Why do you keep commenting here? Don't you have more important things to do? Get on with your life; check on your RSUs value.

You won't regret it. I left in Feb and secured another job very quickly which starts mid May. Leaving was the best decision. There is a whole world of employers out there, people need to stop being weighed down by one. Also glad to see the shine of RSUs has worn off for alot of people.
Truth be told. Broadcom is a retirement village. Don’t stay if you are not within 5 years of retirement. Or stay if you think your role is safe and you like routine. Just hope Broadcom needs you long term. I actually bumped into some people that looked they never left the 1980’s.. I swear
"I've lost all self-respect and find no joy in calculating my RSU windfall."
And that is exactly why the majority of young high-performance talent is leaving.
With all due respect to those close to retirement, our whole life is ahead of us. The Broadcom treadmill isn't for everyone—especially tech talent with current skills.
What goes up will come down. The precious RSUs can be just dead weight if the stock goes down. It may never will as hock be the a god like being and your bet pays off. If it does, well .. the Broadcom brand ain’t gonna help you with the next job search.
bye bye, have a great future.. as im gold digger i will stay here. hahaha
Sounds like you got shafted on RSUs. I got 640 shares.
"75% of go to sell to cover for tax"
What country taxes 75% on stock?! And
what has stock split got anything to do
with it?! Suggest you do the maths >properly.
Ignorance, for some is bliss I guess, but being a douche by suggesting the math is wrong when you clearly have no clue is adding arrogance to that equation - not a good combination.
Think about it, if your vest 4 RSUs and each is $1,300 and your income tax bracket is 50%, your employer sells 3 of those 4 shares (75%) and hand that to the tax man. So an entire extra share is sold just to cover the 1% over 50% and you only get the difference of that amount back when you file your taxes the following year, but no collect dividends or chance to get any of the potential gain in share price during that year for that share. For people with 3 or less RSUs vesting, it gets even worse in terms of that proportion. More shares at a lower price with the same total dollar value would mean less shares to sell to cover and hand over to the tax man. Imagine a person who vests 2 shares under that scenario, they’d get 0% of those when they vest, needing to wait until the following year to reclaim the 49% portion paid on their tax filing. Tax splits to get a lower stock price helps alleviate that type of situation. Existing shareholders also often get the short term benefit of a price per share bump from those events because it often draws in more retail/individual/non-institutional investors to buy the stock because the share price is more accessible to them, especially in countries when purchasing fractions of a share is not yet possible/offered.
Simple enough for you to understand?
After 4+ years with VMware, then Broadcom, I left 2 months ago and haven't looked back. Now with a company that actually has a soul and sole focus isn't sc--wing customers is very refreshing.

The way I see it:
For someone who is 35-45 years old - leave now, you can find a better job. Don't waste your time and life in that horrible place. If you are 55+ stay with BC, collect RSUs and retire if Hock will keep you that long...
I came over to Broadcom from CA.
The money is amazing when your RSU allotments begin to stack after 4 years. The bonus is nice too.
I have way less anxiety and worry about my financial future, retirement and
I don’t care that Broadcom operates without a soul because CA had a soul and none of us could afford life.
Your strategy as a Broadcom employee should be similar to Broadcom’s strategy with their acquired technology assets.
Milk everything until it dries up
Su-k it up. Get RSUs. Retire early :)
Oh, you mean the vanishing RSUs that in my case 75% of go to sell to cover for tax purposes as soon as they vest because the share price is so high and AVGO has never had a split?
People said to us, expect to work hard and make some serious money when you transition from VMware to Broadcom, but with the vanishing RSUs, reduced benefits, eliminated allowances, and the one year cap on commissions (I always made above my OTE), I'm going to make not just less than every other previous year since I joined VMware a few years ago, even with the RSUs, but my OTE is actually less than when I started, which is so much fun when you consider the high inflation over the past 3 years and jump in interest rates and so mortgage costs. Don't get me started with AVGO's sales prevention plan which just gets better and better every other week - what a cluster f!#k that has been!
And let's be honest, even with the 10k (25%) of VMware employees having left or been "let go" since the acquisition closed 6 months ago, I have no illusions that they're done with those or ever will be and so expect deeper cuts to continue to come.
Yeah, I'm tickled pink and rolling in the money alright. I kept an open mind and waited for things to settle and transition, but this has been a complete cluster f!#k!
Just what every employee wants from their employer and what inspires great loyalty in them - reduced comps and benefits, precarious employment, never ending anxiety and being treated like cattle make are great ingredients for wonderful employee morale and retention...NOT! I'm getting off this sinking ship as soon as I can.

I'm glad you didn't land well at Broadcom. After six years at Broadcom (I'm ex-CA), I've lost all self-respect and find no joy in calculating my RSU windfall. I'm too old to leave now, otherwise I'd be gone by now. Trust me, it doesn't get better after more time, it's worse.
I'm sorry you didn't land well at Broadcom. Finding a good fit with a team and culture is difficult in any industry. I wish you well on your hunt. --5 year Symantec/Broadcom guy.
Yeah it’s really bad.
I hate it here, I will also be leaving as soon as I can.
Yeah it's a sh1th0lE.
There's zero rapport with colleagues, little motivation, no team spirit.
Considering all the tax taken on RSUs I just don't see the point. I'd rather work with people I like, and respect.
Good! Just leave broadware ASAP.
VMware is dead! This is the way !
