Hybrid employee. My manager is a remote employee. Been here for less than 3 years. My org gets flattened because HR wants spam of control. Flattens my org but not others. The remote manager should be gone but he’s buddies with another manager and I’ve got 14 people and they STILL flattened my org.
You’ve got to be a paisano to be successful at Dell. It’s literally run like a mafia. It’s all about who’s made.

Cronyism
I now own my own small business as I got tired of the games. I worked for 5 of the top 50 Tech companies. Management in 4 and IC at Dell. I can tell you Dell is all of about relationship management. If you don't work the system for your own needs, you will not move up. Layoffs appeared to random. Although, it seemed like the 50+ male employees got the majority of the axe when it happened.
Nothing different about Dell, all companies are like this.
In my opinion they operate like the mob. Working at Dell is like playing a real life low level mobster. I'm thinking Morrie Keller in goodfellas. You do a job and then ask for your money. They never pay you then fire you because you asked for your money. It truly is a bottom of the barrel organization.

Even if youre producing but dont get visibility you're sunk! My leader took my program & presented it as her own ; keep in mind she doesn't code so kept me in the wings on Teams to text throughout the presentation for my answers. Then a week later was laid-off. Good luck to that ×××××
Dell is in no way comparable to Google. None. Just absurd to even suggest they should be considered peers. LOL
Is it thesame3 people who post weird stuff like this? I hate to break it to you but every major IT Corp runs with a buddy network. There is politics and cronyism. These are not Dell inventions. Look at what is happening at Google. They all end up this way. As it relates to layoffs. Capitalism requires quarterly growth as stocks are expected to go up through either profits or tighter operational costs. Again, every company does it. It is awful but it is reality.

Yeh but we don’t need so many hr directors and vps. Everything is self service. 1 director laid off his whole team. Why is he still needed?
HR exists to protect management and the company. They do not exist to help employees.
